This role supports licensed nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers by performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks to ensure smooth clinic operations and excellent patient experiences.
General Summary The Medical Assistant operates within their scope of practice to deliver patient care as delegated by nursing staff or providers. This position requires strong organizational skills, professionalism, excellent customer service, attention to detail, multitasking ability, critical thinking, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling.
- Provide direct patient interaction such as escorting patients, obtaining vital signs and EKGs, verifying medications and allergies, and documenting medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly.
- Manage phone communications, route messages, and assist with patient inquiries and test result follow-ups.
- Support medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered.
- Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Schedule appointments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries as directed by providers.
- Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals in a timely manner.
- Maintain supply inventory, clean and stock exam rooms, and assist with patient portal education and setup.
- Help orient and train new medical assistants.
- Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, reliability, and professionalism under pressure.
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Mental and Physical Requirements This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and potentially hostile individuals may occur. Exposure to communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is common. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
