Engineering Manager - Embedded SystemsWe are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with a strong background in embedded systems and a passion for building high-performing engineering teams. This role will lead a cross-functional team of hardware and software engineers, with responsibility for technical execution, project delivery, team development, and continuous engineering improvement.The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on technical expertise with proven leadership, project management, and customer-facing experience.Location: Nashville, TN; Carbondale, IL; Louisville, KY; St. Louis, MO; or another location within reasonable proximity to Carbondale, IL.Work Arrangement: Flexible/remote, with approximately one onsite visit per month for team collaboration, leadership activities, and key business engagements.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage a cross-functional engineering team of approximately 8 hardware and software engineers.Own team performance, project delivery, quality, schedules, and technical outcomes.Allocate engineering resources based on project priorities, skills, and timelines.Provide technical leadership for hardware/software integration, system development, circuit design, debugging, and complex engineering challenges.Ensure effective technical reviews, verification, documentation, and adherence to engineering standards.Drive projects from planning through completion, ensuring milestones are achieved on time with minimal rework.Coach, mentor, and develop team members, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and skills development.Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, documentation, and workflows.Support customer interactions, technical discussions, and customer-facing meetings.Serve as a technical escalation point and support solution development, recommendations, and quotations.Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration across engineering teams.Help establish consistent engineering practices while maintaining flexibility and responsiveness to customer needs.QualificationsProven experience leading engineering teams in embedded systems, electronics, or related environments.Strong technical background in hardware/software integration and system-level development.Experience managing end-to-end delivery of customer-driven engineering projects.Strong understanding of embedded systems development and engineering processes.Ability to balance hands-on technical expertise with leadership and strategic decision-making.Strong skills in resource planning, prioritization, and project execution.Excellent leadership, mentoring, communication, and team-building skills.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and technologies.Experience interacting directly with customers and providing technical guidance is highly desirable.Preferred ProfileThe successful candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who can effectively bridge technical execution, people leadership, project delivery, and customer requirements while building a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing engineering culture.
