Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for young, healthy pets, early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages, and complete medical and surgical care as necessary during their lifetime.More About The RoleThe Veterinary Technician assists the veterinarians and other technicians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, maintains inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in-house laboratory work, educates clients regarding veterinary care and procedures, and assists with surgical procedures.CompetenciesPatience & Compassion: Remaining professional while still making teammates, clients, and patients feel as comfortable as possible regardless of the situation or challenges presented. Picking up the needs of veterinarians and teammates based on prior experiences and feedback.Organization Skills: Clear tracking of lab specimens, medications, patient instructions, workflow, and other job-related items while managing multiple patients and clients.Client Satisfaction: Ensuring all activities and interactions result in the highest level of client satisfaction.Essential ResponsibilitiesAssist the veterinarian during examination of animals, providing restraint as needed to work safely and effectively.Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments, as prescribed by the veterinarian.Perform routine dental cleanings on animals under the direction of the veterinarian.Administer anesthesia to animals, under the direction of the veterinarian, and monitor animals' responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted.Obtain radiographs of animals with knowledge of proper positioning and techniques.Care for and monitor the condition of animals recovering from surgery.Perform laboratory tests on blood, urine, and feces, such as urinalyses and blood counts, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.Administer emergency first aid, such as performing emergency resuscitation or other lifesaving procedures.Collect, prepare, and label samples for laboratory testing, culture, or microscopic examination.Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.Provide the veterinarian with the correct equipment and instruments, as needed.Fill prescriptions, measuring medications and labeling containers.Prepare animals for surgery, performing such tasks as shaving surgical areas and placing IV catheters.On-call for emergencies and after hour treatments once a month.Maintain clean examination rooms and treatment areas.Requirements/QualificationsAbility to work on weekends as requiredPrevious veterinary experience preferredAbility to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistancePractice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPEBasic math and the ability to calculate medication dosagesBasic computer skills, familiarity with MS office applications, etc.Strong communication skills to ensure patient safetyBenefits OfferedPaid time offHealth insurance; dental insurance; vision insuranceRetirement benefits or accountsBonus incentiveFlexible work schedulesCareer and professional developmentEmployee Assistance ProgramEmployee Referral ProgramBenefits offered may vary depending on full or part time employment status according to company policy.Pay RangeUSD $14.00 - USD $16.00 /Hr.
