Athletic Director

Job Title: ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Lead and oversee East Grand Rapids High School's athletics program, managing 33 varsity sports teams while promoting a culture of sportsmanship and student development. This role is responsible for planning programs, supervising coaches, budgeting, scheduling, ensuring compliance with state and local regulations, and building strong community partnerships. This role is responsible for upholding East Grand Rapids Public Schools' Tradition of Excellence by ensuring the athletic program supports academic success, character development, and meaningful opportunities for all student-athletes.


Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Athletic Administration, Educational Leadership, or Sports Administration (preferred)
• Michigan School Administrator certification or NIAAA certification (preferred)
• Three to five years of experience in high school athletic administration
• Coaching experience at the high school varsity coaching level
• Knowledge and compliance within the rules and regulations for: Michigan High School Athletics Association, OK Conference, and Title IX
• Knowledge of Final Forms, EventLink, and Arbiter programs (preferred)
• Outstanding work ethic, follow-through, organizational skills, and collaboration skills
• Leadership style based on integrity that will generate trust, confidence, community, and enthusiasm
• Appreciation for diversity and a commitment to high expectations for self, students, and coaching staff
• Experience mentoring and evaluating coaches and/or staff

Essential Functions:

• Successful budgeting skills with the ability to purchase equipment for a competitive athletic program, monitor athletic equipment inventory, and work with booster groups to secure additional funding and support
• Ability to plan, organize, and supervise all athletic programs comprised of multiple coaches and teams
• Ability to monitor, motivate, and evaluate student athletic and academic performance and progress
• Ability to clearly articulate information and ideas verbally and in writing
• Ability to plan, organize, lead, and supervise a high school athletic program comprised of MHSAA and club teams
• Ability to mentor and evaluate coaches and to recognize and resolve conflicts
• Ability to form partnerships with the families to support athletic teams and student-athletes
• Ability to support both single-sport and multi-sport student-athletes
• Ability to create a climate within the Athletics Department which prioritizes student wellness and academic success
• Flexibility and desire to support evening and weekend school-related athletic programming
• Willingness and ability to maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
• Ability to complete other duties as assigned

Location: East Grand Rapids High School

Salary: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications

Contract: 220 days
