Part-time Assistant Men's Soccer Coach

Job Summary DePauw University is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. The assistant coach for men’s soccer is a part‑time position of 1,000 hours per year. The role is not eligible for immigration sponsorship and does not include benefits. The assistant coach will assist the head coach in implementing and directing all phases of a NCAA Division III men’s soccer program, including recruiting, planning practices and game strategies, scouting, scheduling, budgeting, and travel planning in compliance with University, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Essential Functions Understand and comply with NCAA Division III, conference and University rules and regulations. Demonstrate sportsmanship and ethical conduct. Demonstrate sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and a commitment to a diverse community. Implement and execute a comprehensive recruiting plan for the identification and recruitment of qualified student‑athletes, and maintain an acceptable roster per the University. Demonstrate a scheduling philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities for student‑athletes. Develop and implement plans and strategies for practices and competition which result in athletics success. Mentor student‑athletes to ensure athletics and academic success. Schedule competition, make transportation and lodging arrangements for team travel. Administer a fiscally sound athletics program. Evaluate program effectiveness. Monitor student‑athletes’ academic progression. Other duties as assigned by the Head Men’s Soccer Coach or Director of Athletics. Training – Develop a particular skill in others to reach a predetermined standard of performance. Skills & Abilities Education: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree highly preferred. Experience: Competitive playing experience in soccer highly desirable. 1‑3 years of coaching experience preferred. Certification: Must maintain certification in first aid/CPR/AED throughout the appointment. Communication/Language: Basic – Ability to read, listen, comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write and communicate simple correspondence. Math Ability: Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, Google Apps and other programs as determined by specific sport responsibilities. Certificates, Licenses & Registrations: A valid US driver’s license is required. Other Requirements: Excellent communication skills; commitment to and history of strong belief in mentoring students; desire to work in a rural, small‑school environment devoted to providing liberal arts education and building community. Physical Demands Lift/Carry: 10 lbs or less frequently. Push/Pull up to 25 lbs occasionally. Requires standing, walking, speaking frequently. Other tasks include handling responsibilities up to 33% of time constantly, and 66% of time frequently. Vision, hearing and other sensory functions are required. Work Environment During playing and practice season (18‑30 weeks of a 52‑week year) coach stands, walks and sits for 3‑6 hours per day. Outside of season the coach sits 5 hours per day and walks or stands for remainder. Coaching resumes after travel, emergency action, email and correspondence and maintaining recruiting records. The role requires outdoor activities in varying temperatures and may involve personal and team travel.
