The Disability Insurance Branch (DIB) is seeking a thoughtful, detail-oriented leader to join the Fraud and Medical Verification Unit as a Supervisor I. The DIB administers the State Disability Insurance program, which includes Disability Insurance, Paid Family Leave, Non-Industrial Disability Insurance for state employees, and voluntary plans. The program covers 18 million workers and provides financial stability to workers and their families in times of need. We strive to deliver timely benefit payments and quality service to all of our customers. The Fraud and Medical Verification Unit (FMVU) Supervisor I leads staff responsible for identity verification, reviewing potential fraud referrals, and processing related claim issues, including appeals and redeterminations. The supervisor assigns and monitors work, coaches staff, reviews complex cases, and helps ensure decisions are accurate, timely, and consistent with Disability Insurance Branch policies and procedures. This position also uses workload and quality information to identify improvements and works with branch offices, other EDD areas, and external partners to strengthen program integrity and service to claimants. This position is headquartered in the Central Office in Sacramento, near light rail. Will consider candidates who are located throughout the State of California. This position allows for a hybrid telework schedule, which is subject to change, under EDD's telework policy. California Government Code Section 14200 requires employees to reside in California to telework. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, for their in-office days. Employees may be assigned to report to another DI office closer to their California residence. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters/office are the responsibility of the employee.Position located at 1416 9th Street, Sacramento, CA, 95814.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. - Experience supervising or leading staff, assigning work, setting expectations, coaching employees, and addressing performance concerns.
- Experience reviewing complex claims, identity verification issues, potential fraud referrals, appeals, or redeterminations.
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures consistently while exercising sound judgment on sensitive matters.
- Experience using workload and quality measures to identify trends, manage priorities, and improve operations.

Background Investigation Requirement
The position(s) may require an applicant to pass a background investigation.
