Seasonal/Temp - Library Page - Student Assistant Assist in the daily operations of the Owatonna Public Library. Shelve library materials and maintain the library shelving and display areas so customers and staff can locate materials. Retrieve materials. Assist in programs. Maintain public and staff space, materials and equipment. Work schedule includes evening and weekend hours. Duties / Responsibilities Provide a variety of services to the public: Maintain books and materials in correct alphabetical and numerical order. Shelve and display materials in proper locations. Prepare program areas. Assist with programs. Maintain space, materials and equipment. Assist or refer customers. Assist with book sale and other special projects. Other tasks as assigned. Represent City government through direct contact with the public. Answer questions, direct inquiries, assist in equipment and materials use. Refers. Answer citizen questions through direct contact. Respond to citizen inquiries regarding City government. Daily contact with the public. Employee must be capable of operating miscellaneous tools and equipment relative to this position which shall include, but may not be limited to: Audiovisual equipment, computers, copiers, scanners, FAX machines, public address system and calculators. Qualifications Must be at least 15 years of age at the time of hire. Ability to work with public; Knowledge of computer operations; Knowledge of alphanumeric organization systems. Ability to sort and file books, periodicals, and other materials; Ability to retrieve and shelve materials; Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to understand oral and written instructions and requests; Ability to work independently; Ability to multi-task. Hours of Work/Physical and Mental Demands This position offers a flexible schedule, with varying workdays, and the work week may consist of up to ten (10) hours for the duration of the school year. Typically, an indoor working environment with frequent contact with the general public. This position requires equal time spent standing, walking, and sitting. Lifting, pushing/pulling, or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds is often required, with a maximum of sixty (60) pounds sometimes required. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and bending are required. Repetitive hand movements are required. Overhead reach is necessary, and audio, visual, and verbal functions are essential for performing in this position.
