Overview Secondary Teacher (grades 6-12) responsible for instruction of designated content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school. STEM with subject leader area supplement. Responsibilities Design and implement instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs. Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport. Deliver relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement. Utilize a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet individual student needs. Observe and evaluate student performance and mastery of standards, monitor assessment data, and maintain grades and attendance. Manage student behavior using effective classroom management strategies and appropriate disciplinary procedures. Communicate with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourage parental involvement. Take all responsible precautions to provide for health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities. Adequately maintain and secure confidential records, inquiries, and data. Maintain appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required. Performs any other duties as assigned. Planning and Organizing: Prioritizes, plans, uses time efficiently, and works in an organized manner. Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Florida Professional Educator Certificate preferred; eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate required. Language Skills: Reads, analyzes, and interprets documents; responds to inquiries; writes speeches and presents to managers, the public, and school board. Mathematical Skills: Works with math concepts and applies fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and interprets instructions in various forms. Computer Skills: Knowledge of relevant current software programs. Physical Demands Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing. Lifting Demands: Up to 10 pounds.
