Make a meaningful impact in education by supporting students with visual impairments across multiple schools in the Naperville area. This contract role offers the opportunity to serve as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) and Orientation & Mobility (O&M) specialist, delivering specialized instruction and guidance to ensure every student can participate fully in their educational experience.
The assignment spans from ASAP through mid-December, with the potential to extend for the full academic year. You will collaborate with staff and families, advocate for accessible learning, and travel between three TVI-designated schools and three O&M-designated schools within the district, as needs evolve. Your core hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
What We’re Looking For:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Certification or credentials in Orientation & Mobility (O&M), or experience supporting student mobility
- Knowledge of Braille instruction, adaptive technology, and accessible materials
- Strong organizational skills to serve multiple schools and coordinate services
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with educators, families, and administrators
- Compassion and passion for empowering students with visual challenges
What You’ll Do:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum as needed
- Offer O&M training to promote independence and safe navigation
- Consult with general education teachers to facilitate classroom inclusion
- Contribute to IEP meetings, develop individualized goals, and prepare required documentation
- Serve as a resource for staff development in accessible learning strategies
