Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary The Department of Pediatrics seeks a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) to join the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) interdisciplinary teams. The role provides specialized mental health care to children, parents/families, and care partners during trauma, crisis, and high‑stress medical situations. Therapy services address anxiety, stress, grief, end‑of‑life care, ethical dilemmas, trauma, and other mental health needs associated with a child’s ICU stay. Hybrid Model and Schedule The position follows a hybrid model with inpatient warm handoffs, virtual visits, and ambulatory care. Therapy visits are scheduled during weekdays (Monday‑Friday). Qualifications At least two years of post‑licensure clinical experience in high‑acuity areas such as ICU, ED, or crisis centers Experience working with an interdisciplinary healthcare team Comfort and skill with therapeutic interventions to help families and patients navigate medical crises, chronic illness, traumatic injury, grief, and loss Responsibilities Document patient care in accordance with university policies and regulatory requirements Facilitate staff development, in‑service training, and educational opportunities to support professional growth and evidence‑based practice Participate in treatment planning, care coordination, and advocate for patient preferences within the interdisciplinary team Complete bio‑psychosocial assessments, diagnoses, and development of culturally competent individualized treatment plans for patients Provide specialized mental health support for patients, families, and care partners in Intensive Care Units Address trauma, anxiety, depression; facilitate parent‑infant bonding; provide crisis intervention; assist with navigating severe illness, grief, loss, or developmental challenges Provide clinical supervision and train new staff, students, and interns as assigned Assist with treatment program development Minimum Requirements Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE‑accredited program At least 3 years’ experience post‑master’s Licensed as a LCSW in Virginia; if licensed in another state, must obtain Virginia LCSW within 18 months of hire Physical Demands The job requires prolonged sitting, standing, traveling, and climbing stairs. Competent communicative, auditory, and visual skills are required. Attention to detail, ability to read, write legibly, and differentiate colors are essential. Must be able to lift, push, or pull less than 20 lbs. Possibility of exposure to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease. Compensation The starting base rate is $61,443.20 annually. Compensation will be determined by qualifications, experience, and education.
