Industrial Maintenance Supervisor — Packaging & Utilities

Where: Romeoville | Dept: Maintenance | Reports to: Sr. Maintenance Manager

Shift: 2nd (Mon–Fri, 2:00 pm–10:30 pm) | FTE: Full-time | Expected: ~48 hours/week | Compensation: $34–$37/hour + $1 shift differential

Role snapshot

• Lead second-shift maintenance in a USDA-regulated food production facility.
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain packaging lines (wrapping, checkweigh, cartoning, case packing, UPC/barcoding, erectors, conveyors).
• Own PM scheduling and work order assignment for efficient uptime.
• Support facilities needs (lighting, plumbing, electrical) across the site.
• Ensure building compliance with city and fire regulations.
• Coordinate and monitor outside contractors for scheduled work.
• Coach team members on lift operation, safe welding, and safety programs (LOTO, ladder safety, etc.).
• Read electrical schematics; troubleshoot 110/230/460V systems; minor PLC programming (Allen-Bradley/Siemens).
• Cover wastewater technician duties for week-long vacations; mentor wastewater techs.
• Communicate across maintenance, sanitation, production, and logistics; set priorities and respond rapidly to breakdowns.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; solid reading, writing, and basic math.
• 5+ years’ mechanical/electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic experience in USDA or FDA food manufacturing.
• Clear verbal/written communication; able to take direction, self-prioritize, and work independently in a team setting.
• Reliable, safety- and quality-focused; bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Tools & technologies

• PLC systems: Allen-Bradley, Siemens (basic programming/troubleshooting).
• Conveyor and high-speed packaging equipment.

Food safety/quality expectations

• Report any food safety or quality concerns to supervision and/or QA without delay.
• Flag and escalate any risk or evidence of out-of-spec products, equipment, packaging, or raw materials to a designated manager for immediate action.
