Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Oncology Registered Nurse to join our team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The oncology unit consists of 29 beds, primarily focusing on acute oncology symptoms, hematology, and end-of-life care.

Job Details

Shift: Day shift (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
Shift Length: 12 hours
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Experience Required: 1 year in a related specialty with at least 1 travel assignment
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holidays: Rotate with staff

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care for patients with acute oncology symptoms, including thrombocytopenia and neutropenia.
Monitor patient vital signs and maintain central telemetry.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement effective care plans.
Complete floor-specific orientation and training for new hires.
Be prepared to float to medical acute as needed, though this is rare.

Qualifications

Certifications Required: BLS (AHA), NIHSS preferred
Additional Certifications: Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification recommended for chemotherapy administration (requires 2 years of experience in specialty)
Experience: A minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in oncology

Additional Information

The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5, with occasional adjustments to 1:6.
Nurse aides are available, usually 3 per day, to assist with patient care duties.
Scrub color is Caribbean Blue.
Orientation on the floor lasts for 3 days to ensure familiarity with processes and staff.
Outpatient oncology patients may finish their treatments on the floor if necessary.
