Summary Essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to; registering all new patients, obtaining the necessary information from them upon arrival. Functioning as an operator for the entire hospital and as an answering service for physicians. Also performs general clerical duties. Other functions that may be assigned. Responsibilities (25%)* Completes registration of incoming patients. (25%)* Know insurances and how they interact with one another. Know basic reimbursement and ability to explain it to the public. (25%)* Performs duties of the physician answering service. (25%)* Maintains appropriate files and records. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Functions as the medical center operator. Performs general department clerical duties. Know requirements for consent for treatment and knowledge of guardianship as well as Mental Health Consent. Ability to handle effectively multiple tasks simultaneously. Appropriately maintains department and physician on-call schedule. Respond appropriate to alarms located at switchboard. Appropriately assign beds and works closely with nursing and accurate census at any given time. Participates and attends meetings as required. Accurate and complete demographic information is obtained to ensure integrity of data base. Acts as a patient advocate, crossing multi-disciplinary lines to meet patient needs. Give activity report to next shift of on call changes, situations in ER, House Manager, etc. Demonstrates competency in Infection Prevention and Control Practices and Policies. Education Specialization: GENSTUDY Essential: true Other Information EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must also be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
