Medical Laboratory Scientist - Blood Banking

Schedule

Saturday through Monday, 6:00 AM - 7:30 PM

Job Description

This position is responsible for performing all routine and complex laboratory procedures with a strong focus on Transfusion Service (Blood Banking). The role includes specimen processing, testing, result calculations, quality control, instrument maintenance, and potential phlebotomy tasks. Additionally, the position may involve the development and implementation of new laboratory protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform all routine and complicated laboratory procedures specific to assigned section.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with quality control programs and laboratory policies.
• Calculate, enter, and verify results of laboratory procedures.
• Utilize the Laboratory Information System for documentation.
• Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new or updated testing procedures.
• Adapt care methods to unique patient needs, optimizing patient assessment and treatment strategies.
• Follow required compliance and regulatory tasks to maintain certification and standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant scientific field or equivalent laboratory training.
• Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from recognized credentialing agencies.
• New graduates must be Board Certified or eligible for certification within one year of hire (Louisiana excluded).
• Experience includes clinical laboratory rotation through Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, and related sections.
