The City is seeking a motivated and collaborative Associate Engineer to join our team and help plan, design, and deliver a variety of important public works projects. What you'll be doing:

• Ensure construction projects comply with regulations and technical standards.
• Conduct and verify calculations for project designs.
• Work with engineers, consultants, and contractors, manage progress, and handle approvals.
• Create technical reports, specifications, right-of-way maps, and contracts.
• Investigate field conditions and support construction inspections.
• Prepare requests for proposals and contracts for consulting services.

The position:

Under general supervision performs professional civil engineering work of above average difficulty to include reviewing plans related to public works construction projects; performs a variety of engineering work to include the preparation of plans, estimates, specifications and other documents; serves as project engineer as assigned and performs related work as required.

Employment guidelines:

Education/Training/Experience: Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and
• Three years of experience involving the design, construction, inspection and surveying of public works projects.

Special requirements:

• Valid and appropriate California Drivers License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position
• Possession of a State of California Engineer in Training Certificate
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs

Based on the information presented on the application materials, applicants possessing the most suitable qualifications will be invited to a written examination, performance examination, oral interview, and/or other assessment instruments. Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Associate Engineer will be placed on an eligible list for the classifications, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list. Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process. All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a background and medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees that are appointed to safety-sensitive classifications will undergo a drug screen. All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified by the State of California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Associate Engineer appointees will serve a 12-month probationary period.
