Overview The Arizona State Hospital (ASH) provides inpatient psychiatric care to persons with serious mental illness who need long-term behavioral health care. ASH promotes hope and wellness for our patients and creates opportunities to participate in planning, delivering and evaluating services that assist with recovery. Treatment is individualized with goals that focus on education about an illness, instilling hope and improving one's overall quality of life. The Arizona State Hospital has a wide range of positions available, from direct care staff to nurses, behavioral health technicians, social workers, rehabilitation specialists and security personnel. We offer 12‑hour shifts for direct‑care staff as well as alternative work schedules and flexible hours for non‑direct‑care staff. We provide a robust benefits package, including an ADHS Student Loan Assistance Program that can provide up to $437.50 per month for eligible employees. Job Location Arizona State Hospital (ACPTC), 501 N. 24th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008 Job Summary Performs individual and group therapy with individuals who have a sexual offense history and have been identified as sexually violent persons and civilly committed to Arizona Community Protection and Treatment Center (ACPTC). Participates in resident treatment groups, develops group curricula, facilitates sessions, and documents resident progress. Screens, interviews, and conducts assessments ensuring accurate data collection. Performs risk assessments, provides emergency interventions, and issues clinical orders as appropriate. Engages in case presentations and multidisciplinary staffing, develops and reviews treatment plans for compliance, identifies resident needs, and establishes goals. Designs, implements, and evaluates group programs. Writes and reviews progress notes for compliance and evaluates reports and recommendations regarding changes in resident placement. Participates in committees as assigned. Participates in classification decisions and may provide clinical oversight in the absence of the ACPTC Clinical Director, and may supervise psychology interns or students. Job Duties Provide psychological treatment and counseling (individual and group), conduct psychological evaluations and risk assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate resident programs, and maintain accurate documentation. Evaluate and document consultation regarding residents who exhibit signs of or verbalize intent to harm themselves or others (DTO/DTS) to ensure safety. Participate in clinical treatment planning for residents and provide clinical oversight in the absence of the Clinical Director. Develop and maintain psychological program resident files, including treatment plans, progress notes, reports, and case summaries. Conduct and review research in mental health, sex offender treatment, recidivism, psychology, and special needs of the resident population; present case study reviews to psychology staff and collaborate with outside agencies as needed. Promote cooperation and dialogue with facility departments through committee meetings, staffing, special activities, and consultation. Participate in professional development activities, including in‑service training, program staff training, conference participation, and maintain continuing education credits. Provide supervision and clinical oversight to doctoral‑level interns, practicum students, and master’s‑level clinicians working toward advanced licensure (LPC). Provide administrative assistance by reviewing treatment plans and progress notes for quality, accuracy, and compliance. Perform other duties as assigned, typically 5%–10% of time. Knowledge Techniques and procedures for psychological counseling and therapy. Comprehensive knowledge of psychological screening, testing, and evaluations. Contemporary trends in psychology, sociology, and mental health. Research methods and techniques, including data analysis and psychological measurements. Report writing. Performance Management, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Lean methodologies. Skills Providing psychological treatment and counseling to individuals and groups in accordance with professional and ethical standards. Oral and written communication, case management, interpersonal relations, and report writing. Abilities Work effectively with and consult with a multidisciplinary team. Provide timely documentation for assessment and treatment activities, administer, score, and interpret a variety of psychological tests accurately and effectively. Write summaries and reports of professional quality; perform counseling and therapy services with individuals and groups. Provide clinical oversight to professionals and paraprofessionals. Selective Preferences Training in a wide range of psychological assessments and at least one year of professional experience as a licensed psychologist or training experience with forensic populations. Experience working with individuals who have a history of sexual offending, treatment, or assessment, preferred but not required. Preference given to applicants with public health experience. Pre-Employment Requirements Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. Licensed as a psychologist in the State of Arizona or license‑eligible and able to receive certification from the Board of Psychologist Examiners within one year of appointment. All state hospital employees must possess a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to A.R.S. 41‑1758.07.
