REGISTERED NURSE NICU (NIGHTS)

Registered Nurse (RN) – General Purpose The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during my shift. I must comply with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility and may be required by the Director of Nursing (DON) and/or Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) when applicable to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. Key Responsibilities Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing the daily nursing activities in accordance with regulations. Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures for the nursing service department. Ensure reference materials (e.g., PDRs, regulations, professional standards) at nurses' stations are current and recommend necessary updates. Maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual to reflect daily nursing procedures. Ensure all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures in the manual. Provide written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director as needed regarding operation of the nursing service department. Periodically review department policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, and recommend revisions. Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care. Ensure nursing staff compliance with job descriptions. Participate in development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility's quality assurance program for the nursing service department. Participate in facility surveys (inspections) conducted by authorized government agencies. Review and update residents' written discharge plans as necessary. Assist the Director in planning the nursing portion of residents' discharge plans. Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan services, programs, and activities. Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required. Complete accident/incident reports as necessary. Interpret department policies and procedures for personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting. Maintain confidentiality of user IDs, passwords, and protected health information. Report suspected unauthorized attempts to access facility information systems. Attend committee meetings (Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Quality Assessment, etc.) and assist in preparing reports. Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as requested. Assist in developing the agenda for the Care Plan Committee meetings. Participate in regularly scheduled reviews of discharge plans and make them available to the Care Plan Committee. Implement committee recommendations under the Director's instruction. Ensure sufficient licensed practical and/or registered nurses and certified nursing assistants are available for the shift. Develop work assignments and assist in completing and performing tasks. Delegate administrative authority and accountability to Charge Nurses. Ensure nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from an approved training program. Ensure nurse aide trainees are supervised by a licensed nurse. Make daily rounds to ensure personnel perform assignments in accordance with nursing standards. Monitor absenteeism and report issues to the Director. Ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and dress codes. Review complaints and grievances filed by personnel and report appropriately. Maintain a good working rapport with inter‑department personnel. Create and maintain a positive, calm workplace environment. Conduct regular shift meetings to correct problems and improve services. Review and evaluate the workforce and recommend staffing to the Director. Administer employee performance evaluations, staffing determinations, and recommendations on dismissals and transfers. Enforce disciplinary action fairly and without regard to protected characteristics. Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, and hazardous chemicals as required. Report incidents of fraud to the Administrator. Ensure proper login/logout of departmental computer workstations. Prepare admissions, transfers, and discharges of residents. Encourage physicians to record and sign progress notes and orders promptly. Notify the Director of untimely physician visits. Consult with residents, families, and physicians regarding care planning. Notify families and physicians of resident condition changes. Visit residents daily to observe and evaluate physical and emotional status. Provide direct nursing care as required. Start IVs, obtain sputum, urine, and other specimens as ordered. Take TPRs, blood pressures, etc., when necessary. Maintain written reports and recommendations on resident status. Assist in monitoring severely ill residents. Authorize restraints following facility policy. Ensure RNs and LPNs comply with medication administration procedures. Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules. Review medication cards for accuracy and stop order compliance. Inspect nursing treatment areas for cleanliness and safety. Check residents unable to call for help frequently. Arrange transportation for discharged residents when required. Inform families of resident death and call funeral homes when requested. Assist in coordinating nursing services with other resident services. Assist in developing and executing the facility's safety and sanitation standards. Monitor staff for safe use of equipment and substances. Obtain and maintain adequate supplies of personal protective equipment. Ensure compliance with hand‑washing and hand‑hygiene procedures. Participate in fire safety and disaster preparedness drills. Maintain infection control programs for communicable diseases. Enforce isolation precautions as needed. Report hazardous conditions or equipment issues. Ensure proper handling of chemicals, back braces, mechanical lifts, etc. Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Director. Maintain adequate stock levels of medications and supplies. Assist in developing preventive maintenance programs for nursing equipment. Ensure only trained personnel operate nursing equipment. Monitor nursing procedures to promote efficient usage of supplies. Maintain MSDS records for hazardous chemicals. Participate in planning and revising MDS and RAPs. Ensure nursing personnel reference resident care plans before daily care. Review nursing notes to confirm care plan adherence. Assist in budget and economic adjustments to ensure quality care. Report suspected fraud related to billing, cost reports, or kickbacks. Qualifications Minimum Nursing Degree from an accredited institution. Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices. At least 2 years of experience, preferably in a long‑term care facility. Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English. Ability to read technical procedures and comprehend policy manuals. Excellent presentation and communication skills with managers and staff. Strong mathematical skills (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions). Capacity to make independent decisions, solve practical problems, and deal tactfully with personnel and residents. Leadership and supervisory skills with willingness to work harmoniously with others. Planning, organizing, and implementing programs, goals, and policies. Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing care facilities. Patience, tact, cheerfulness, and enthusiasm, with willingness to handle difficult residents. Readiness to incorporate new methods and principles into practice. Current RN license in the state of practice. Active CPR certification. Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred. Ongoing continuing education and licensing maintenance. Good standing with the State Board of Nursing at all times. Physical ability to move intermittently throughout the day, lift and carry up to 25 lbs over 5 ft, and move up to 50 ft.
