Location:  Fairbanks, AK
Pay: $31.25–$36.05/ hour DOE
Schedule : Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM–4:00 PM | Minimum 30 hours per week
Position: Full-Time

This position supports a broad range of day-to-day accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable reconciliation, financial reporting, and bank and credit card reconciliations. The Accounting Specialist will also help improve internal processes through technology and assist with the implementation of AI-based workflow automation.

The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, comfortable working with financial data and technology, and able to manage multiple deadlines. This role requires someone who can work independently, collaborate with a team, communicate professionally, and use good judgment when solving problems.

Key Responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll and payroll tax deposits
• Assist with quarterly and annual payroll tax reporting
• Prepare and submit monthly union reports
• Manage accounts payable, including vendor invoices and payments
• Assist with accounts receivable reconciliations and aging reports
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and vendor statements
• Maintain organized accounting files and financial records
• Support financial data validation and clean-up projects
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities
• Assist with insurance requests, renewals, and related documentation
• Help develop and improve internal workflows and procedures
• Use technology to improve workflow efficiency and support AI-based automation
• Provide general office support including phones, scanning, filing, copying, and document organization
• Assist the Controller with special projects as needed
• Occasional travel within Alaska may be required

Minimum Requirements

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Willingness to learn and use new technology, including AI-based automation tools
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

Preferred Experience

A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred. Experience with QuickBooks, Sage, or similar accounting software is also helpful.
