Accounting Operations Supervisor

Location: Urbandale, IA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – approximately six onsite days per month on a scheduled team rotation
Employment Type: Six-month contract with potential for permanent employment

We are seeking a strong people leader to supervise an accounting operations team supporting Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, or Direct Bill functions. This role is focused more on coaching, workflow management, problem-solving, and process improvement than advanced technical accounting.

The Accounting Operations Supervisor will lead approximately 10–12 employees with varying levels of experience, including senior accountants and staff accountants. The ideal candidate can keep the team organized, provide clear direction, address performance concerns, and ensure deadlines are met—especially during month-end.

• Lead, coach, and support a team of approximately 10–12 accounting professionals.
• Establish priorities, assign work, set goals, and monitor team performance and productivity.
• Keep employees on track while maintaining an approachable, open-door leadership style.
• Provide guidance, feedback, training, and support to employees at different experience levels.
• Manage workflows and ensure accurate, timely completion of work, particularly during month-end.
• Partner with other departments, operational teams, business partners, and leadership.
• Communicate accounting procedures, compliance requirements, and process details clearly.
• Support colleagues in India by answering questions and providing guidance on procedures and compliance.
• Identify inefficient or highly manual processes and recommend practical improvements.
• Help standardize processes across teams and international operations.
• Participate in significant process changes and transition-related training initiatives.
• Resolve operational issues and help the team adjust to changing priorities and business needs.

• At least five years of accounting, finance, or financial operations experience.
• Strong leadership potential with the ability to coach, motivate, and guide employees.
• Experience managing workflows, productivity, deadlines, or team performance.
• Demonstrated involvement in process improvement, project management, or significant operational changes.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to explain detailed procedures and requirements to employees and business partners.
• Strong time-management and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate with multiple departments and meet month-end deadlines.
• Strong Excel skills.

• Previous experience formally or informally leading a team.
• Experience supporting Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Direct Bill, or transaction-processing operations.
• Experience working with global or offshore teams.
• Familiarity with Oracle, Power BI, Workday, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; preferred but not required.

This is a daytime position with no regular evening or weekend schedule. Employees work at least eight hours per day, with a 30-minute to one-hour lunch. The hybrid schedule averages approximately six onsite days per month. Onsite days are scheduled for the team and are not individually selected.

The interview process is expected to include two rounds, with the first interview preferably conducted onsite.
