Summary and Objective:

Maintenance Technician III is an advanced technical role responsible for complex troubleshooting, controls diagnostics, and electrical system repair. The objective of this role is to maximize equipment uptime and reliability by independently resolving advanced mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues, including 480V systems, PLC-driven equipment, and automated production systems. This role also plays a key part in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement efforts, driving corrective actions that improve long-term equipment performance while operating with high autonomy in both technical and leadership capacities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of industrial equipment, automation systems, and facility electrical systems with minimal supervision.

2.     Diagnose and repair complex electrical issues involving 480V three-phase power, motor controls, and industrial distribution systems.

3.     Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment by reading ladder logic, monitoring system status, and performing basic diagnostics and I/O verification.

4.     Troubleshoot and repair VFDs, HMIs, servo systems, sensors, relays, contactors, and related automation components.

5.     Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts for recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve long-term reliability.

6.     Assist in prioritizing maintenance workload during breakdowns, production interruptions, and planned maintenance windows.

7.     Read and interpret complex electrical schematics, control diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.

8.     Perform mechanical alignments, adjustments, and equipment optimization to improve machine performance and uptime.

9.     Utilize advanced diagnostic tools such as multimeters, megohm meters, and clamp meters for electrical troubleshooting.

10.  Support installation, startup, and commissioning of new or modified equipment and control systems.

11.  Document maintenance activities, troubleshooting steps, and RCA findings accurately in CMMS or maintenance tracking systems.

12.  Ensure compliance with all safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), arc-flash safety, and PPE requirements.

13.  Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and equipment performance.

14.  Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

§  High school diploma or GED required.

§  Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance, electrical maintenance, or controls experience in a manufacturing environment.

§  Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems including 480V three-phase power.

§  Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment, including ladder logic navigation and basic diagnostics.

§  Proficiency using multimeters and other electrical diagnostic tools.

§  Working knowledge of VFDs, HMIs, servo systems, relays, contactors, and industrial sensors.

§  Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and technical documentation.

§  Strong troubleshooting skills with ability to perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

§  Demonstrated ability to provide informal leadership.

§  Strong understanding of industrial safety practices including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and arc-flash safety.

§  Ability to work independently while also coordinating working well in a team environment.

§  Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment within job requirements.

§  Ability to work flexible schedules, overtime, weekends, and emergency breakdown coverage as required.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications:

§  Associate degree or technical certification in industrial maintenance, electrical systems, automation, or related field.

§  Experience in pallet manufacturing, lumber processing, sawmill, or heavy industrial environments.

§  Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC platforms.

§  Exposure to industrial networking systems such as Ethernet/IP or similar protocols.

§  Basic PLC programming or modification experience (preferred, not required).

§  Experience with conveyor systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated production equipment.

§  Welding or fabrication experience.

§  CMMS experience for work order management and maintenance documentation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities; however indirect supervisory responsibilities do exist and rely heavily on leadership and influential capabilities.

Physical Demands:

This position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, and working in physically demanding industrial environments. The employee must regularly lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier items handled using team lifting or mechanical assistance. The role requires working in elevated areas, confined spaces, and around energized or moving equipment. Strong manual dexterity, visual acuity, color recognition, and hearing ability are required to safely diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical systems.

Work Environment:

This position works in a fast-paced industrial pallet manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical equipment, conveyors, saws, forklifts, vibration, wood dust, grease, oils, electrical hazards, and varying indoor and outdoor temperatures. The employee may work near energized electrical systems, industrial control panels, and automated production equipment. Required PPE includes safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe footwear, and arc-flash protective equipment as required by task. This role may involve shift work, overtime, breakdown response, and scheduled maintenance shutdowns. Strict adherence to all safety procedures and company policies is required at all times.

Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position that will be assigned to a certain shift (I.e., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.). Days and hours of work are normally Monday through Friday, with an 8-to-12-hour work period per day. Exact time of day depends on the assigned shift. Some overtime, night, and/or weekend work may be required.

Travel:

This position requires minimal travel from 5-10%.
