Bilingual Office Specialist 1 - Justice Court

Job Title

Marion County requires on-site work. Remote work is not available. New employees typically start at Step 1 of the pay scale: $18.94 per hour.

Typical Duties - Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

This position provides services to monolingual Spanish-speaking clients; therefore, fluent bilingual Spanish/English skills are required. The primary focus of this position is customer service.

1. Provide customer assistance to the public, in-person, and by telephone; receive and respond to general questions by providing information regarding violation plea options, citation, and collection processes, including payment options and obtaining license clearances.
2. Receive and transfer business calls on a multiple-line system; transfers, takes messages or refers calls to proper source.
3. Perform basic math calculations; post records according to instructions; accept, receipt and record payments; balance and total numerical data in simple accounts; compile and maintain data for recordkeeping purposes.
4. Operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, computer) with minimal instruction; copies documents; performs simple maintenance on office machinery as required.
5. File to existing filing systems; distribute and process mail, correspondence and materials; maintain adequate office supplies, reordering when necessary.
6. Access computer for information; update and retrieve information; and may complete less-complex data entry assignments.
7. Type routine material; complete forms and form letters.
8. Provide coverage for the front office, as needed.
9. Act as witness to wedding ceremonies.
10. Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements for the Position

Experience and Training

1. High school diploma or equivalent; OR
2. Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.

• Experience in an office environment or supplemental coursework related to general office skills.

• This position provides services to monolingual Spanish-speaking clients; therefore, fluent bilingual Spanish/English skills are required. An additional 5% will be added to the hourly wage as compensation for this skill. Finalist will be required to pass a verbal Standardized Spanish/English Fluency Assessment as part of the hiring process.
• The finalist for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check, including finger printing; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this position.
• This position requires possession of or obtain within six (6) months of hire, Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification.
• This assignment is represented by a union.
• This is a full-time position, which is eligible for overtime.
• Typical schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with flexibility depending upon the needs of the department. Coverage may be needed for evening court hours, which take place on the first and third Wednesday of every month. If this coverage is needed the hours will be adjusted for those days to 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of general office practices and procedures; English composition, spelling and grammar; and modern office equipment, including computers, and their intended use.

Skill and ability to type at an acceptable rate of speed; file; and perform math calculations; understand and follow written and oral communications, carry out work assignments under supervision and with general instructions; meet and assist clients, staff and the general public in a courteous manner; and understand, convey and apply readily recognizable standards and procedures.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, full-time employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Student Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Marion County does not offer VISA sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security's I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
