Senior Project Accountant

Robert Half is working with an established company that is growing and adding to their team.

They are looking to bring on a Senior Project Accountant to support the financial management of multiple projects from inception through completion. This role will partner closely with Project Managers and operational leadership to oversee project budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, billing, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly analytical, and experienced in project-based accounting environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting lifecycle for assigned projects, including setup, budgeting, forecasting, revenue recognition, and closeout.
• Monitor project costs, profitability, and performance against budget.
• Prepare and review client invoices, progress billings, and change orders.
• Analyze project financial results and provide variance analysis to project and finance leadership.
• Track labor, subcontractor, equipment, and material costs to ensure accurate project reporting.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities related to project accounting.
• Review and reconcile project-related balance sheet accounts.
• Support revenue recognition and ensure compliance with company accounting policies.
• Prepare project-specific financial reports, dashboards, and ad hoc analyses.
• Partner with Project Managers to identify financial risks, cost overruns, and opportunities for improved project performance.
• Assist with audits and provide supporting documentation as needed.
• Contribute to process improvements and system enhancements related to project accounting and reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3-4+ years of accounting experience in project accounting. Also open to someone from public audit with construction clients.
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate across finance and operations teams.
