Designer Location: Becker, MN Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid Contract Details: Position Type: Contract Duration: 12 months Pay Rate: $35.00–$39.00 / Hour (USD) Shift / Schedule: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM with flexible core hours; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday onsite at Sherco plant (13999 Industrial Blvd, Becker, MN); Monday and Friday remote work allowed Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time. Job Summary: The project involves converting a turbine generator into a synchronous condenser, which includes updating the control systems from physical control panels to a distributed control system (DCS). Designer II will play a crucial role in this transformation by working on electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. A typical day for the Designer involves several key activities: analyzing and understanding current electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, converting image files into vector format, designing new schematics for updated control systems to ensure compatibility with the DCS, and collaborating with plant and project engineers as well as external consultants. The work environment is supportive and collaborative, involving teamwork with plant and project engineers and external consultants. The position offers a standard full-time schedule with flexible hours and the potential for overtime as needed, though no overtime is expected initially. Key Responsibilities: Understanding Existing Schematics: Analyze the current electrical schematics and wiring diagrams Redrawing Schematics: Convert existing image files of schematics into vector format with precision and attention to detail Designing New Schematics: Create new schematics for the updated control systems to ensure compatibility with the distributed control system (DCS) Execution: Assist in the design and execution of the project, ensuring all electrical connections and controls are accurately represented and functional Collaboration and Interaction: Interact regularly with plant and project engineers, work with external consultants, and potentially interface with vendors such as Siemens or ABB Creates, updates and revises sketches, working drawings and contract documents using Computer Assisted Design (CAD) software or manual means of drafting to meet customer requirements Prepares 2D and 3D models Reads and comprehends detailed customer requirements, data sheets and supplier specifications Requires familiarity with drafting techniques and engineering concepts and terminology Able to read engineering drawings and blueprints Prepares documentation to support design drawings Prepares bills of material, schedules, and assist engineering personnel with formal drawing transmittals and construction issues Required Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation software tools for redrawing and designing electrical schematics Strong understanding of electrical concepts, schematics, wiring diagrams, and connection diagrams Experience with motor control systems Ability to draft and design electrical schematics, including converting image files into vector format and creating new designs for updated control systems Familiarity with PLC, TCS, or DCS control systems Strong attention to detail Strong communication skills Self-starter with a proactive mindset Able to read and comprehend detailed customer requirements, data sheets and supplier specifications Familiarity with drafting techniques and engineering concepts and terminology Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints Preferred Skills: 5–7 years of previous engineering or electrical experience Experience in industrial settings, particularly with companies like 3M or utilities Experience from architectural engineering firms Experience from utility companies Sense of humor Required Experience: Industrial background and experience with motor control Work Environment / Physical Requirements: Supportive and collaborative team environment Regular interaction with plant and project engineers and external consultants Onsite presence required Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at Sherco plant in Becker, MN; remote work allowed Monday and Friday Parking available on property Benefits: Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Plans 401k Retirement Fund About GTT: GTT is a minority-owned staffing firm and a subsidiary of Chenega Corporation, a Native American-owned company in Alaska.
