Assistant Bakery Manager

Location: 630 Baltimore Boulevard ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Promote excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer‑focused behavior with associates. Smile, greet customers, answer questions, and help resolve issues promptly and professionally. Focus on continuous improvement in all areas of the department and make changes to ensure progress. Takes customer orders over the phone or in person with a pleasant, positive attitude. Determine what the customer wants in terms of size, flavor, and appearance, and create the finished decorated product in a timely fashion. Decorate cakes and other bakery products using dye, specific designs, or custom designs, and use a variety of creams, frostings, and fillings to achieve consistent outcomes. Make icing for cakes and related products while adhering to company‑approved recipes. Assist the Bakery Manager with day‑to‑day operations such as merchandising, advertising execution, associate engagement, and customer service, and perform Bakery Manager duties in their absence. Oversee department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports, product orders, and supplies to ensure successful period‑end physical inventory. Assist with scheduling all bakery associates, participate in training, reward and recognize performance, and delegate work assignments to effectively utilize talents and maximize departmental profits. Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) for current and new associates. Develop and implement merchandising plans that meet financial goals, and stay knowledgeable about weekly ads and specials to ensure correct pricing and production amounts. Continuously improve knowledge of produced merchandise while adhering to and enforcing company policy of production logs. Check and verify all department deliveries and invoices to ensure accurate billing, and help unload merchandise and transport it to the sales floor or storage area. Enforce and follow department practices regarding receiving, dating, restocking, and product rotation to maintain quality and freshness. Monitor product quality and freshness, and break down deliveries as needed. Control department expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, controlling labor costs, and reducing losses due to damages, spoilage, and shrink. Ensure associates correctly follow company recipes for prepared products, and maintain freshness by properly removing and recording out‑of‑code products. Complete required product logs. Keep the bakery department well stocked and appealing to meet customer demand, while continuing to greet customers, make suggestions, and answer questions about various products. Resolve customer concerns promptly and courteously. Ensure that merchandise is fresh, saleable, and properly priced with correct signage. Handle spoiled, damaged, or near‑expiration product according to company procedures and standards, and remove non‑saleable items to maintain quality. Assist with the production of breads, pastries, and other baked goods for sale, adhering to production logs and approved recipes. Ensure smooth workflow by cooperating with co‑workers and superiors, and continually seek to improve job performance. Use all company‑provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including cut‑resistant gloves, safety cutters, and company‑sponsored footwear. Assume additional support in other departments as called upon. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise associates within the department in partnership with or absence of the department manager. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in business‑related or food‑service‑related field desirable. Minimum two (2) years’ experience in management within a retail, restaurant, or supermarket environment. Previous decorating experience preferred.
