Senior Business Analyst - User Experience

Job Summary:

The Senior Business Analyst, Level 3, will play a pivotal role within a hybrid agile project team, collaborating with solution delivery vendors and stakeholders to design, implement, and evaluate user-centered digital solutions. This role focuses on enhancing online user experience and content strategies by applying agile methodologies, usability standards, and user research to deliver accessible, user-friendly, and effective digital products aligned with business objectives. Responsibilities:

• Develop product design criteria, planning activities, communication protocols, and manage prioritization and phasing strategies.
• Apply evidence-based approaches such as user analytics, interviews, and testing to improve design choices continuously.
• Ensure compliance with web usability and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0 to 2.1 Level A & AA).
• Visualize and design digital solutions with vendors to ensure simplicity, usability, and accessibility.
• Assess user needs, goals, challenges, and pain points to guide design decisions.
• Lead usability requirements definition, testing, and performance measurement.
• Manage product backlog, prioritize features, and decide on software release timing.
• Conduct stakeholder consultations to determine business needs and emerging trends.
• Guide and mentor the team in content design, wireframing, prototyping, and identifying new functionality opportunities.
• Lead prototyping activities to validate new features against best practices and standards.
• Provide technical advice on usability, accessibility, and front-end design.
• Analyze web analytics and performance metrics to provide user experience feedback.
• Prepare project status reports, risk mitigation strategies, and executive presentations.
• Conduct multiple concurrent research and content design initiatives.
• Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mock-ups, and prototypes.
• Identify solution design limitations and recommend elegant solutions.
• Champion user-centered design and agile iteration processes.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Identify and troubleshoot user experience limitations and adjust layouts based on feedback.
• Ensure project timelines are met and issues are managed promptly.
• Support development and testing teams with test plans, defect management, and end-user inquiries.
• Document and manage project artefacts and risks in shared libraries.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Significant experience designing online user experiences for complex digital solutions.
• Proficiency with design tools such as Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Balsamiq, and InVision.
• Strong knowledge of web usability and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0 to 2.1 Level A & AA).
• Experience with content layout, typography, mobile-first, and responsive web design principles.
• Familiarity with information architecture, taxonomies, and navigational design elements.
• Knowledge of usability and user-experience methodologies and techniques.
• Understanding of Ontario digital government standards.
• Experience working in Agile (SCRUM) delivery methodologies; Scrum Master experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
• Experience with collaboration and backlog management tools such as MIRO, Atlassian Confluence, Trello, Microsoft Office 365, Google Drive, Zoom, Slack, Microsoft Teams, JIRA, Azure DevOps, and Pivotal Tracker.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, collaboration, negotiation, facilitation, presentation, and time-management skills.
• Leadership skills to advise on user experience and design aspects.
• User-centric mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to translate business goals into digital experiences and prioritize change requests.
• Strong research skills for industry trends and solution improvements.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Scrum Master certification or equivalent experience.
• Advanced expertise in interactive and front-end design.
• Experience with user research techniques and transforming feedback into design improvements.
• Experience preparing executive-level communications and strategic presentations.
