Principal Technical Analyst

Role Description

The Principal Technical Analyst plays a critical role in supporting technical execution for MMIS Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) and/or the Medicaid Pharmacy environment. This role provides hands‑on technical analysis, SQL development, data validation, integration support, and system troubleshooting across one or more functional domains, including:

• Member
• Provider
• Claims (Medical, Dental, and/or Pharmacy)
• Utilization Management
• Prior Authorization
• Finance
• Plan/Care Management

Your role in our mission includes:

• Technical Analysis & Data Expertise:
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize complex SQL queries, views, and stored procedures.
  • Perform in-depth data analysis and root-cause investigations.
  • Use SQL to extract, analyze, reconcile, and validate data.
  • Support performance tuning activities.
  • Perform smoke testing and post-release validation.
• Data, Conversion & Integration Support:
  • Coordinate with data conversion teams.
  • Validate converted and migrated data.
  • Support and validate configuration syncs.
  • Analyze, validate, and reconcile interface outputs.
  • Validate X12 EDI transactions.
  • Coordinate and manage reference data files.
• Solution Design & Technical Validation:
  • Support Business Analysts by translating functional requirements.
  • Interpret and leverage Data Element Dictionaries (DEDs).
  • Analyze and document data flows, integration logic, and technical dependencies.
  • Perform feasibility analysis on requested features.
  • Participate in design and requirements workshops.
  • Present and explain technical impacts to governance forums.
• Testing & Deployment Support:
  • Support System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), parallel testing, and performance testing.
  • Assist with test data setup and validation scripts.
  • Analyze defects related to data, interfaces, and performance.
  • Support deployment and post-production issue resolution.
• Collaboration, Communication & Leadership Support:
  • Serve as a technical liaison between teams.
  • Document and communicate technical findings.
  • Collaborate with configuration teams.
  • Mentor junior technical analysts.
  • May lead sub-tracks within technical workstreams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Informatics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 12+ years of experience as a Technical Analyst, Data Analyst, or Healthcare Systems Analyst.
• Advanced SQL skills, including complex joins, transformations, and stored procedures.
• Experience supporting MMIS, Medicaid, or Medicaid Pharmacy systems.
• Strong understanding of healthcare data and Medicaid domains.
• Experience with data analysis, troubleshooting, and validating technical outputs.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
• Experience working in SDLC and Agile delivery environments.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with QNXT or similar healthcare claims/encounter management platforms.
• Familiarity with Data Element Dictionaries (DEDs), interface specifications, and integration design.
• Experience validating X12 EDI transactions and healthcare interfaces.
• Experience supporting data conversion, reconciliation, and parallel testing.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
