Job Details

This company is filling one of its most urgent open seats: an Electrical Project Developer (Estimator) to help win commercial electrical work and bring technical depth to a developing team. You'll own the full lifecycle on your projects, from finding and qualifying the opportunity through estimating, closing, and handoff. This is an individual contributor role, not a management position, but there's a real informal mentorship element - the team includes earlier-career talent who would benefit from a more seasoned peer. You'll report to the General Manager, with regular coaching from the Chief Commercial Officer, and leadership is ready to move quickly for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors, property owners, and other referral sources to generate commercial electrical project opportunities
• Qualify incoming bid opportunities and proactively pursue new ones, favoring larger office, industrial, and institutional work with visible bid dates over fast, unpredictable bidded work
• Walk job sites and review plans/specs to scope commercial electrical projects accurately, including takeoffs for equipment, wiring, panels, and systems
• Build competitive, profitable estimates and proposals, balancing price to win against margin targets
• Present and negotiate proposals directly with GCs and owners, adjusting scope or approach as needed to close the deal
• Hand off won projects cleanly to the field team, with a scope, budget, and expectations that set the job up to be executed profitably
• Track and manage a personal pipeline of active bids and opportunities, and report on pipeline health, win rates, and backlog contribution
• Informally share technical knowledge and estimating know-how with earlier-career members of the commercial team, including the founder's son, without taking on a formal management title
• Stay current on local commercial and industrial construction activity, competitor pricing, and market trends that affect estimating assumptions

What Success Looks Like

• First 30-60 days: ramped up on the company's systems, pricing standards, and current bid list; getting to know the existing commercial team and its current projects
• First 90 days: independently scoping and estimating projects, with your first wins on the board and active relationships with at least a handful of GCs or owners
• 6-12 months: consistently winning profitable commercial electrical work, with visible signs that less experienced teammates are picking up estimating and technical skills from working alongside you
• Ongoing: recognized as both a strong individual producer and a go-to technical resource for the rest of the electrical team

What You Bring - Must-Haves

• Roughly 8-10+ years of electrical project development or estimating experience - seasoned enough to bring technical credibility, but not so far into a career that mentoring and staying hands-on hold less appeal
• Ability to independently build takeoffs, scope electrical work, and price it competitively while protecting margin
• A demonstrated track record of winning business, not just submitting bids - comfortable generating some of your own leads and relationships
• Genuine willingness to share technical knowledge informally with less experienced teammates
• Comfort working in a non-union commercial electrical environment

What You Bring - Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with large office, industrial, or institutional electrical projects
• Existing relationships with general contractors or property owners in the Indianapolis market
• Prior experience informally or formally mentoring less experienced estimators or project developers
• Familiarity with construction estimating software and CRM/pipeline tracking tools
