Job Description

The Maintenance Technician performs efficient and effective maintenance activities that maximize safe production of quality products, minimize cost, and protect the environment. This role is responsible for maintaining and repairing all manufacturing equipment, with a strong focus on diagnosing equipment breakdowns, executing mechanical and electrical repairs, and supporting continuous, reliable operation of an industrial manufacturing plant.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and rebuild manufacturing equipment to ensure safe and continuous production of quality products.
• Rebuild large gearboxes, including disassembly, inspection, replacement of components, and reassembly to precise specifications.
• Align pumps and other rotary equipment using appropriate tools and techniques to ensure reliable operation and minimize vibration.
• Troubleshoot, fabricate, install, repair, calibrate, check, and adjust equipment, controls, facilities parts, and services to maintain the highest level of equipment utilization.
• Diagnose and resolve equipment breakdowns quickly and effectively to reduce downtime and maintain production schedules.
• Perform electrical troubleshooting on low-voltage and medium-voltage systems, including 480V and up to 4160V, following safety standards and procedures.
• Unwire and rewire equipment as needed for maintenance, modifications, and repairs, ensuring proper connections and documentation.
• Conduct basic instrument troubleshooting, working with instrumentation technicians to identify and resolve control and measurement issues.
• Support and maintain equipment such as Fanuc robots, 6-axis robots, PLC-controlled systems, centrifugal pumps, vacuum blowers, and thermoforming equipment.
• Use multimeters and other diagnostic tools to test motors, circuits, and electrical components, and interpret schematic and blueprint information.
• Troubleshoot PLC controls and ladder logic to identify control system faults and assist in restoring automated operations.
• Perform mechanical maintenance on equipment including screw presses, blend tanks, agitators, servo motors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, refiners, and conveyors.
• Follow GMP and plant procedures to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both process flow and thermoforming sections.
• Collaborate with a skilled maintenance team and production staff to prioritize work, coordinate repairs, and support continuous improvement.
• Document maintenance activities in the CCMS system accurately, including work performed, parts used, and equipment status.
• Participate in training and development opportunities to expand multi-craft skills in electrical, mechanical, PLC, and robotics maintenance.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in the electrical and mechanical field in an industrial maintenance environment.
• Proven experience as a true Industrial Maintenance Technician with multi-craft responsibilities (mechanical, electrical, and controls).
• Strong mechanical skills, including rebuilding large gearboxes and performing rotary equipment rebuilds and alignments.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial equipment breakdowns in a manufacturing plant.
• Ability to troubleshoot, fabricate, install, repair, calibrate, check, and adjust equipment and controls to optimize utilization.
• Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting on low-voltage and medium-voltage systems, including 480V and up to 4160V.
• Capability to safely unwire and rewire equipment for maintenance activities, following electrical safety standards.
• Basic instrument troubleshooting skills and experience working alongside instrumentation technicians.
• Experience working with Fanuc robots and 6-axis robotic systems in an industrial environment.
• Knowledge of PLC controls and ladder logic for troubleshooting and supporting automated systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints.
• Proficiency using a multimeter and other diagnostic tools for electrical and mechanical testing.
• Experience with industrial maintenance tasks involving motors, servo motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and related systems.
• Competence in electrical maintenance within an industrial manufacturing setting.
• Ability to use a computerized maintenance management system (CCMS) for work orders and documentation.
• Certifications in relevant maintenance or safety standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a GMP-compliant manufacturing environment.
• knowledge in maintaining and troubleshooting Fanuc robots and other industrial robotics systems.
• Familiarity with centrifugal pumps, vacuum blowers, thermoforming equipment, screw presses, blend tanks, agitators, refiners, and conveyors.
• Exposure to process flow operations involving raw material shredding, tank systems, refining processes with chemical baths, and repulping.
• Comfort working across both process flow and thermoforming (production) areas in an industrial plant.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond quickly to equipment failures.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with a skilled maintenance team.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and environmental protection in all maintenance activities.
• Willingness to work night and weekend shifts after initial training period.

Work Environment

This role is based in an industrial manufacturing plant that is divided into two main sections: the Process Flow area for raw materials and the Thermoforming production side. The Process Flow area handles raw materials that are shredded, processed through a series of tanks and refining stages with a chemical bath, repulped, and then transported via piping to the Thermoforming department. Equipment in the plant includes screw presses, blend tanks, agitators, servo motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, refiners, and a limited number of conveyors, as well as Fanuc robots, 6-axis robots, centrifugal pumps, vacuum blowers, and thermoforming equipment. The facility operates under GMP standards, providing a clean and organized environment. The position follows a 2-2-3 schedule: initial training occurs on day shift (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday) for 1–2 months, after which the role transitions to a weekend night shift from Friday to Monday, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The work involves both electrical and mechanical tasks in an industrial setting, requiring adherence to safety procedures and comfort working around process equipment, chemicals, and production machinery.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vonore, TN.

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $34.00/hr.
