Job Title: RN Medical/Surgical Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical/Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:45 PM - 07:15 AM Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active RN license Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, NIH Certification Must-Have: Successful completion of a proctored rhythm test Description: We are looking for highly motivated nurses for a Surgical Observation unit. This unit primarily cares for the oncology surgical population. The team's goal is to make a difference by providing emotional and physical care. Nurses will support women and their families during a challenging time. Staffing may require floating to different units or facilities within a 35-mile radius. This will be based on staffing needs, patient census, and acuity. Travelers will be notified before their scheduled shift if a float assignment is required. The unit capacity is 30 beds. The patient population mainly includes surgical observation patients with a 24-hour or less length of stay. Patients may have undergone procedures such as hysterectomy, mastectomy, lumpectomy, or thyroid surgery. Skilled nursing care is essential to prevent complications. Nurses will also identify early complications and provide education about specific surgeries. The unit also accommodates a general medical/surgical patient population. Patients served range from young adults to late adults (ages 18-60+). Nurse to patient ratios are 1:6. The core staffing plan includes Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Nurse Interns. An RN assumes full responsibility for the patients in each team.
