Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry/Med-Surg position requiring critical drip titration experience and telemetry skills for a 13-week night shift contract in West Virginia.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a 32-bed Telemetry/Med-Surg unit (4 Pavilion)
• Patient population includes adult and geriatric patients with cardiopulmonary diagnoses such as CHF, chest pain, and post-cardiac cath (primarily femoral, some radial)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Nitroglycerin (chest pain only), Amiodarone, Lasix, Heparin, and Dopamine (low-dose renal perfusion only)
• Monitor techs are available 24/7; charge RNs read strips, but RNs are also expected to review strips each shift
• Equipment includes IV pumps, sequential compression devices, pulse oximeters, specialty beds, telemetry monitors, CPAP, BiPAP, and oxygen
• Charting is done in Epic
• Schedule is 3x12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM–7:15 AM); block scheduling is accommodated when unit needs are met
• Every other weekend is required on a set rotation (weekends 1 & 3 or weekends 2 & 4)
• Holiday coverage rotates with core staff
• Floating may be required to 3P or 5P (Med-Surg) units or to the ED to care for boarded patients; float pool floats first
• CNAs are available: 1:10 ratio days (7A–7P) and 1:15 ratio nights (7P–7A)

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Med-Surg and telemetry experience required
• Experience administering and titrating critical drips required
• Chemotherapy administration experience preferred
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Two supervisor/peer references required for consideration, including a supervisor reference from any permanent facility worked in the last 12 months
• Driver's license and copies of all certifications required for consideration
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required
• Orientation includes a general hospital orientation day, a full nursing orientation day, a full day of computer/Epic training, and two 12-hour preceptored orientation shifts
• An abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist is due within 90 days of start date
• Travelers may be asked to fill in the charge nurse role; cross-training is available for those willing and interested
• Scrub color for RNs is solid navy; no patterns or embroidery permitted; closed-toe shoes required (no Crocs); approved layering pieces include WVU Medicine or solid-color fleece zip-ups in grey, black, navy, or royal blue
