Oncology Registered Nurse

Oncology Registered Nurse - Baton Rouge, LA Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Oncology Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel assignment in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This role is based in an acute care hospital setting, providing specialized care to adult patients undergoing various oncology treatments. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care, managing complex patient needs, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes within a dynamic oncology unit. Key Responsibilities Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, and other oncology-specific medications safely and accurately. Monitor patients for adverse reactions to treatments and implement appropriate interventions. Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including physical, psychosocial, and educational needs. Manage central venous access devices (CVADs) and other specialized equipment. Provide expert pain management and symptom control for oncology patients. Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, medication management, and self-care strategies. Collaborate effectively with physicians, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals. Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) documentation. Ensure adherence to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Required Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license. Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience as an RN in an acute care oncology setting. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification. Experience with specific electronic health record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner). Skills & Competencies Clinical Skills: Chemotherapy administration, central line management, venipuncture, comprehensive patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, EKG interpretation. Equipment Proficiency: IV pumps, patient monitoring systems, electronic health record (EHR) systems. Soft Skills: Critical thinking, excellent communication (verbal and written), empathy, strong organizational skills, time management, problem-solving, teamwork, adaptability.
