FINANCIAL INSTITUTION EXAMINER 5

Job Summary The Department of Business and Industry is recruiting a Financial Institutions Examiner 5 to manage, develop, and implement examination programs for the Division. The incumbent plans and prioritizes examinations, verifies compliance with state and federal laws, and prepares comprehensive reports for institution management and board of directors. Participation in the Division’s strategic planning, policy development, and budget formulation is also part of the role. Responsibilities Review prior examinations, correspondence, and documents; develop an exam plan. Ensure compliance with regulatory licensing requirements for various financial entities. Conduct entrance and exit meetings with institution management to answer questions, verify facts, and discuss findings. Review activities to ensure compliance with laws, evaluate audit procedures, and analyze the financial and operating condition of each institution. Analyze key safety and soundness components, ratios, and trends; assess capital adequacy, loan and investment viability, management policies, earnings, liquidity, and interest rate sensitivity. Prepare and analyze reports, prepare final reports with findings and recommendations, and assist in coordinating corrective measures. Review, investigate, and process licenses for newly approved or renewing institutions; respond to inquiries, conduct follow‑ups, and initiate enforcement actions or referrals to the Attorney General’s Office when warranted. Perform related duties as assigned. Manage, develop, implement and review examination programs; meet performance indicators and fiscal goals; coordinate with federal regulatory partners and national associations. Train, supervise, and evaluate professional staff including subordinate supervisors. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, economics, finance, or related discipline. Four years of increasingly responsible professional experience conducting institutional examinations; or one year as a Financial Institutions Examiner IV in Nevada State service; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as a Certified Examinations Manager (CEM) by the Conference of State Banking Supervisors (CSBS) is required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Detailed knowledge of depository or non‑depository team functions and responsibilities. Working knowledge of supervisory techniques: selection, motivation, training, work assignment, review, employee evaluations, performance standards, and discipline. Ability to manage programs, plan and coordinate work projects, provide presentations to senior managers and public forums, communicate effectively with federal and state officials, and continuously review the examination process and outcomes. Ability to ensure proper training of subordinate staff, including on‑the‑job and formal training.
