We’re looking for iOS Engineers across several teams to help us take our apps to the next level. Some of the opportunities include:Build engaging features to improve the reader experience in our flagship News appMaximize subscriber value within our Growth PlatformApply the latest trends in native development to create engaging experiences on our Games teamHelp users discover and cook the world's best recipes on the Cooking teamBuild the foundational technologies that empower all mobile teams by joining the App Platforms teamThis is a hybrid role, based at our New York City headquarters, reporting to the Mobile Engineering Manager and collaborating with native iOS and Android engineers, QA, product, project, data, and design professionals.Responsibilities:Build and ship iOS features by enhancing existing code and creating new functionality from scratchWrite clean, maintainable code using Swift and SwiftUIMentor other iOS engineers and support their growthParticipate in code reviews and write unit tests; collaborate with QA to enable robust automated functional testsContribute to app architectural decisions, documentation, technical roadmap and timeline estimationsIntegrate with internal NY Times services and external third-party APIsStay current on iOS technologies, best practices, and AI tooling for mobile developmentDemonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the worldBasic Qualifications:2+ years of professional native iOS development experience using SwiftiOS design patterns, memory management, and multi-threading, such as SwiftUI, UIKit, Combine, MVVM/MVI, and CoreData/GRDBKnowledge of Git/GitHub and best practices for peer code reviewExperience with the mobile app release process, build tools, and continuous integrationExperience with Agile software development practicesUnderstanding of dependency injectionProven focus on app performance, quality, and responsivenessPreferred Qualifications:Knowledge of iOS UI concepts (layouts, themes, styles, views) and Material Design guidelinesExperience working on a mobile platform teamExperience working with a distributed team and an understanding of how to make the most of asynchronous collaborationThis role may require limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule will be determined when you join, taking into account team size and other variables.REQ-019914Additional Compensation and Benefits:For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
