Construction Estimator

Estimator Location: Hybrid (Detroit, MI Preferred; Minimum 3 Days On-Site) Job Type: Full-Time | Exempt Compensation: $80,000-$90,000 (based on experience) Position Summary We are seeking a motivated Junior Estimator to join our Preconstruction team. This entry-level to early-career role supports senior estimators throughout the estimating process, including quantity takeoffs, subcontractor solicitation, bid coordination, and post-award documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, eager to learn, and interested in building a career in commercial construction estimating. Prior estimating experience is preferred but not required for candidates with strong technical aptitude and relevant education or internship experience. Key Responsibilities Perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings using industry-standard estimating software under the guidance of senior estimators. Assist in preparing estimate spreadsheets, cost summaries, takeoff logs, and bid documentation across CSI divisions. Review drawings, specifications, and addenda to identify scope requirements and support estimate updates. Assist with general conditions pricing, estimate templates, historical cost databases, and unit cost libraries. Identify discrepancies or missing information in project documents and communicate findings to senior team members. Assist with subcontractor bid invitations and track bid coverage throughout the solicitation process. Organize subcontractor proposals and support preliminary scope comparisons. Provide bid-day support by tracking incoming pricing and assisting with final estimate compilation. Follow up with subcontractors regarding pricing, documentation, and scope clarifications. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience). 1–4 years of experience in commercial construction estimating, project engineering, or a related construction role. Internship or co‑op experience in construction is highly desirable. Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation preferred. Technical Skills Experience or familiarity with the following is preferred: Bluebeam Revu Sage Estimating or similar estimating software Microsoft Office 365 (Excel proficiency required) BuildingConnected or similar bid management platforms Training will be provided for the right candidate. Work Environment Hybrid work environment with a minimum of three days per week in the office. Up to 15% local travel to project sites and meetings. Opportunity to work alongside experienced preconstruction professionals on active commercial construction projects ranging from tenant improvements to large‑scale developments.
