Job Description

Maintenance Department

1. The Maintenance Worker is directly responsible to the Director of Facilities, the Assistant Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, the Business Administrator and the Superintendent of Schools. 2. Shall work directly under the Director of Facilities who will schedule the work to be performed through the distribution of work orders at the various locations throughout the school system. Work to be performed shall consist of Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, Painting, Masonry, Boiler repair preparations and various types of repairs to equipment and buildings. 3. Must be able to operate standard power tools such as drills, saws, saber saw, bench saw, sander, and other various power tools. NOTE - employees are responsible for tools assigned to them. 4. Submit daily report of work orders completed to the Director of Facilities. 5. Complete weekly time on task documents for work order completion of tasks that were accomplished within working week. EXAMPLE (time in/time out on job). The Facilities Director will fill in material costs on work order. 6. Be responsible for securing all necessary material of a small nature in order to complete assigned tasks properly. 7. Complete routine upkeep of maintenance department equipment, e.g., vehicles, lawn mowers, lining machine, tools. 8. Ensure the work areas are clean and neat after assignments are completed… 9. Snowplow parking lots, clear snow and ice from walkways, sidewalk and storm drains throughout the school district. 10. Clean snow and debris from rooftop storm drains throughout the school district. 11. Inspects all facilities for any unsafe or hazardous conditions, advising the Director of Facilities of any situation(s) that may arise. 12. When duties permit, work with the grounds department to accomplish the overall mission of the Sayreville Board of Education. Scheduled overtime shall be offered to the proper group. 13. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Director of Facilities, the Assistant Supervisor of Building and Grounds, the Business Administrator and the Superintendent of Schools within the structured duties of his/her classification. HVAC Duties 1. Performs preventative maintenance on various mechanical and electrical equipment in heating and cooling systems throughout the school district. 2. Installs, maintains and repairs heating, ventilating, air conditioning and steam distribution equipment systems throughout the school district 3. Operates various measuring and testing equipment. 4. Calls and works with vendors to arrange service for warranted parts, select appropriate replacement parts and troubleshoot problems 5. Reads blueprints, piping and wiring diagrams. 6. Performs brazing, soldering, pipefitting and welding. 7. Monitors and inspects heating and cooling systems to ensure continued proper operation. 8. Checks and changes air filters on a regular basis on all heating and cooling equipment. 9. Determines amount of airflow required to keep carbon dioxide at a safe level; ensures this level is maintained. 10. Participate in a -on call- after hours emergency pertaining to heating and refrigeration 11. Program and control computerized building automated climate control systems throughout the school district
