Research Teaching Specialist III

Overview Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III to join the Cancer Epidemiology and Health Outcomes/Population Science team at the Rutgers Cancer Institute. The role involves coordinating all aspects of data management and programming for epidemiologic research projects, and may include managing a small research program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform data cleaning, management, and programming (e.g., R, SAS) to support research activities. Support components of epidemiologic research studies as assigned by the Principal Investigator, including communication with data collection staff to resolve discrepancies. Assist in organizing and conducting specialized research activities for specific projects. Support senior staff and students, fellows, and research staff with data analysis and related projects. Assist with coordination and evaluation of non-professional staff training. Conduct data processing and statistical analyses (e.g., regression, survival analysis). Develop and maintain databases, analysis code, and data dictionaries, ensuring reproducible workflows. Prepare tables and figures for presentations, lectures, manuscripts, and grant applications. Attend and contribute to study team meetings to provide updates on data-related tasks and flag issues. Minimum Education and Experience Master’s Degree in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, data science, or a related quantitative field plus one (1) year of related research experience, or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience. Relevant experience includes data management and analysis using statistical software (SAS, R) in epidemiologic/population science projects. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge in biostatistics and epidemiology, and proficiency in programming in SAS and R. Effective oral and written communication skills. Computer literacy with proficiency in database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with large-scale datasets (genomic, clinical, or environmental exposure data) and/or familiarity with regression modeling, survival analysis, or high-dimensional data analysis. Exposure to genetic epidemiology methods (e.g., GWAS) or environmental exposure modeling, and experience with data visualization and reproducible workflows.
