Accounting Technician

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit This position is assigned to the Department of History, one of the largest academic departments within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department is committed to the purposes of a research university, to the teaching of history at the undergraduate level as a core discipline in a liberal arts education, and to the training of graduate students. This Department is the leading history department in the Southeast and ranks eleventh in the nation. The Department of History is comprised of 50 full-time faculty and teaching assistant positions. The Department carries approximately 325 undergraduate majors, 185 second-majors; 350 minors, approximately 130 graduate students, and enrolls 3,250 students in classes each semester. Within the faculty ranks, there is a Departmental Chairman, Associate Chair, and Directors of the Graduate and Undergraduate Programs. From the SHRA ranks, there is an administrative and support staff of six full-time positions. The primary objective of the Department of History is to provide high-level research, teaching, and service to the citizens of the State of North Carolina. Position Summary The position primarily processes, maintains, and monitors financial accounting data, as well as generates routine reports. Technical accounting work includes responsibility for maintaining accounting records, ensuring data accuracy, and following regulations and procedures. The selected candidate is responsible for pre/post award and support to the business services coordinators in monitoring and closing out grant accounts. This position will report to the department business manager. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Management Preferences Prior experience working with Connect Carolina, Tableau reporting, and Infoporte.
