A Service Technician must be capable of performing his or her assigned duties in a team environment and at times without direct supervision. This individual must be self-motivated, take pride in their work, and possess strong communication skills as they interact with clients, 3rd party personnel, and co-workers on a daily basis. They must have a thorough understanding of the scope of work for the services they are providing and be proficient in the Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities. They must be hard working and capable of performing heavy physical labor for extended periods of time and often under strenuous circumstances. Reliable, punctual, and exhibit good communication skills with management and coworkers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Interface with all related parties to make sure they have a clear understanding of expectations, job task requirements, and the steps involved.
- Have a general knowledge of and adhere to all policies & procedures of the company/client and comply with all ethical & safety standards.
- Observe all safety rules/policies at all times, good housekeeping, and help maintain a safe work environment/area.
- Capable of selecting and utilizing the proper personal protection equipment for each assigned task and willing to exercise “Stop Work Authority” if and when necessary.
- Minimal field experience but able to perform required tasks without direct supervision.
- Basic understanding of each job being performed, take initiative, and are willing to ask for guidance when unsure.
- Possess good communication skills, willing to learn, professional, mechanically inclined, detail oriented, basic problem solving, organizational skills, and able to handle multiple tasks at once.
- Able to work 12+ hour days, day/night shifts alike, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- High school graduate/diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in well servicing, pressure control, pumping operation or similar oil field services activities (frac, coil tubing, fishing)
- Ability and competency to run high pressure BOP/Rental equipment as may be needed.
- Basic math, writing, computer, communication and interpersonal and organizational skills
- Self-starter and ability to work with limited direct supervision.
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including mobility, climbing, lifting, tool handling, and other physical demands described in the Physical Demands and Work Environment section.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs frequently, perform team lifts when required, and demonstrate 80–100 lbs grip strength for tool and equipment handling.
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written; English preferred
- The ability to interact with others in a team and fast-paced environment.
- Must have a valid, active state-issued driver license.
- Reliable telephone (cell phone) communication and transportation
- Ability to clear eligibility on Axis pre-employment requirements.
- Receipt of proof of eligibility to work in the United States, as required by law.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.
Work schedule expectations include 12-hour shifts, a typical 14/7 rotation, and approximately 60% travel to field or well site locations.
Pre-employment and job-relevant screening requirements may include a basic physical, musculoskeletal assessment, pulmonary function testing, audiogram, vision test, drug screen, functional capacity evaluation, and respirator medical clearance where required by assignment, customer, regulatory, or safety-sensitive work requirements.
Must be able to work in confined or restricted spaces when required, including entry, positioning, inspection, troubleshooting, or service work around BOP and pressure-control equipment while following applicable permitting, atmospheric monitoring, rescue, and PPE requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires lifting up to 75 lbs frequently and team lifting or mechanical assistance when needed for heavier or awkward equipment.
- Typical physical activity includes approximately 6 hours standing, 3 hours sitting, and 5 hours walking during a 12-hour shift.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, pushing/pulling, and continuous fine motor coordination are required to operate BOP equipment, high-pressure equipment, and hand tools.
- Must be able to climb ladders or access equipment up to 15 ft. and demonstrate 80–100 lbs grip strength for tool-intensive work.
Typical working conditions and hazards:
- Work is performed primarily outdoors at well sites and field locations in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes.
- Must be able to wear required PPE for the duration of assigned work, which may include hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, FR clothing, gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection, fall protection, and other task-specific protective equipment.
- Must be able to work in high-noise environments and comply with hearing conservation requirements, including use of hearing protection and participation in baseline or periodic audiometric testing when required.
- High noise levels are expected; hearing protection and applicable PPE are required in designated areas.
- Must be medically cleared, fit tested, and trained after using required respiratory protection, including H2S respiratory protection or working under air when required by job assignment, customer requirements, or site conditions.
- Potential hazards include pressure-control equipment, high-pressure equipment, heavy tools, moving machinery, and confined or restricted work areas.
- Potential exposure to H2S, loud noise, airborne toxins, solvents, flammable atmospheres, industrial chemicals, and other well site hazards.
