Registered Nurse (RN) - MedSurg Oncology

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our MedSurg Oncology unit. The ideal candidate will possess strong oncology experience and demonstrate proficiency in telemetry. This position involves caring for patients with both oncology and general medical-surgical needs within a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a 28-bed unit, ensuring adherence to best practices and protocols.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry readings; responsible for assessing patient conditions.
• Administer and titrate medications, including Heparin and Cardizem, as necessary.
• Perform nursing duties with consideration for hospice patients within the inpatient oncology program.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including Charge Nurses and Patient Care Assistants, to enhance patient outcomes.
• Participate in unit orientation for new nurses and contribute to team development.
• Utilize Epic system for patient documentation, with potential for training depending on prior experience.

Qualifications

• Active RN license and BLS certification required; ONS chemotherapy certification preferred.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in oncology nursing is mandatory.
• Proven ability to pass a dysrhythmia exam during onboarding.
• Experience with central lines and port access, including changing sterile dressings.
• Must be able to work every other weekend with a rotating holiday schedule.

Unit Details

• Telemetry unit with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4-5.
• Night coverage includes CNA support during shifts for patient assistance.
• Availability of respiratory therapy equipment managed by respiratory therapists, while nurses handle basic respiratory treatments.
• Central monitoring unit for telemetry; nurses are trained to read and interpret telemetry strips.

Work Environment and Schedule

This role requires a commitment to the day shift, with hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, including every other weekend. Nurses may be required to float within the MedSurg/Telemetry service line based on unit needs, as dictated by staffing requirements.
