Korean PDF Annotator and Transcriptionist

Role Overview

Help create high-quality training data that improves document AI for Korean materials, especially pages that are difficult for automated systems to interpret. You will turn publicly available PDF pages into complete structural maps and precise Korean transcriptions, working with real-world materials such as newspapers, textbooks, examinations, flyers, forms, manuals, menus, brochures, notices, and worksheets. All annotation and transcription work is performed in Korean.

Key Responsibilities

• Review assigned PDF pages, which are provided for you, and confirm that each page is Korean-language, legible, contains meaningful content, and has no personal details before beginning work.
• Identify and draw boundaries around every meaningful page region, including titles, section headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, formulas, questions, and answer fields.
• Assign each region a component type and reading-order index.
• Link regions to their associated figures or tables using parent component identifiers.
• Transcribe text exactly as shown in Hangul, including hanja and handwritten content, and flag regions that cannot be read clearly.
• Capture page metadata, including language, document type, source, page dimensions, and whether tables, formulas, or handwriting are present.
• Review colleagues'' completed tasks end to end as an experienced annotator.

Qualifications

• Native Korean fluency and full command of Hangul are required. Familiarity with hanja is needed when it appears in older or formal documents.
• Experience in bilingual transcription, translation, editorial work, or AI training data is preferred, ideally including reviewer experience.
• Exceptional character-level accuracy. A single incorrect jamo is considered a defect.
• A systematic approach to applying a consistent taxonomy across hundreds of pages.
• Comfort working with unfamiliar and complex layouts, including multi-column newspapers, exam papers, and handwritten forms.

Preferred Expertise

• Annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation for AI training datasets.
• MTPE, subtitling, bilingual quality assurance, OCR correction, or post-editing.
• Typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization of Korean-language materials.
• Unicode normalization, Korean input methods, Hangul jamo composition, and hanja handling.

Quality Expectations

• Capture, correctly bound, and correctly classify every meaningful page region.
• Represent the page''s actual reading order, including content across columns.
• Produce character-for-character transcriptions in Hangul, not romanization.
• Complete work accurately enough to pass second-expert review on the first submission.
• Flag unsuitable pages before substantial annotation time is spent.

Work Terms

• Remote, hourly engagement.
• Work involves human-authored component identification, component typing, reading-order assignment, and transcription. Parsing models are not used to generate these deliverables.
• Quality is the primary measure of performance, with handling time also tracked.

Compensation

$33.58 per hour.
