Bengali PDF Annotator and Transcriptionist

Role Overview

Help build high-quality training data for document AI by creating structural annotations and faithful Bengali-script transcriptions from real, publicly available PDF pages. You will work with challenging materials such as handwriting, multi-column layouts, tables, diagrams, and mixed-script pages drawn from newspapers, textbooks, examinations, flyers, forms, manuals, menus, brochures, notices, and worksheets.

All annotation and transcription work is completed in Bengali. Every component identification, classification, reading-order decision, and transcription is human-authored.

Key Responsibilities

• Review assigned PDF pages, which are provided for you, and confirm that each page is Bengali, legible, substantive, and free of personal details before annotation begins.
• Identify, bound, and classify every meaningful page region, including titles, section headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, formulas, questions, and answer fields.
• Assign a reading-order index to each region and link regions to their associated figures or tables using parent component identifiers.
• Transcribe all text exactly as shown in Bengali script, including handwritten content, and flag regions that cannot be read clearly.
• Record page metadata, including language, document type, source, page dimensions, and indicators for tables, formulas, and handwriting.
• Review colleagues'' work end to end as an experienced annotator.

Qualifications

• Native Bengali fluency, with full command of Bengali script, orthography, diacritics, and conjunct forms.
• Experience working with documents through annotation, transcription, translation, localization, subtitling, proofreading, journalism, or regional-language data review.
• Exceptional character-level accuracy, including precise diacritic use.
• A systematic approach to applying a consistent annotation taxonomy across large volumes of pages.
• Comfort working with unfamiliar and complex layouts, including multi-column newspapers, examination papers, and handwritten forms.

Preferred Experience

• Regional-language AI data work, including annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation for training datasets.
• Transcription or localization work such as MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, or post-editing.
• Bengali document production, typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization.
• Knowledge of Unicode normalization, Bengali input methods, and accurate numeral and character forms.

Quality Expectations

• Capture, correctly bound, and correctly classify every meaningful page region.
• Reflect the actual reading order, including across columns.
• Produce character-for-character Bengali-script transcriptions rather than transliterations.
• Submit work that passes second-expert review on the first review cycle.
• Flag unsuitable pages before substantial annotation time is spent.

Work Terms

• Remote, hourly engagement.
• Accuracy is the primary performance measure, with handling time also tracked.

Compensation

• $12.68 per hour.

• Bengali fluency is required.
