Bengali Document Annotator and Transcriber

Role Overview

Help create human-authored training data that improves document AI for Bengali script. You will turn publicly available Bengali PDF pages into detailed structural annotations and exact Bengali-script transcriptions, with a focus on challenging real-world materials such as handwriting, tables, diagrams, dense multi-column layouts, and mixed-script documents.

The work draws on newspapers, textbooks, examinations, flyers, forms, manuals, menus, brochures, notices, and worksheets. All annotation and transcription work is performed in Bengali.

Key Responsibilities

• Locate publicly accessible Bengali PDFs within assigned document types that include at least one image, table, diagram, or handwritten element, and record the document source.
• Identify, bound, type, and assign reading order to every meaningful page region, including titles, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, formulas, questions, and answer fields.
• Link page regions to their associated figures or tables using parent component identifiers.
• Transcribe all text exactly as shown in Bengali script, including handwriting, and flag content that cannot be read clearly.
• Capture page metadata, including language, document type, source, page dimensions, and indicators for tables, formulas, and handwriting.
• Review another Bengali expert''s work end to end when assigned as an experienced annotator.

Qualifications

• Native Bengali fluency is required, including full command of Bengali script, orthography, diacritics, and conjunct forms.
• Experience with document annotation, transcription, translation, localization, subtitling, proofreading, journalism, or regional-language data review.
• Strong character-level accuracy, including careful handling of Bengali diacritics and script details.
• A systematic approach to applying a consistent taxonomy across many pages.
• Comfort working with unfamiliar layouts, including multi-column newspapers, examination papers, and handwritten forms.

Preferred Experience

• Regional-language AI data annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation.
• MTPE, subtitling, bilingual quality assurance, OCR correction, or post-editing.
• Bengali document typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization.
• Unicode normalization, Bengali input methods, and numeral- and character-form accuracy.

What Success Looks Like

• Every meaningful page region is accurately captured, bounded, and typed.
• Reading order matches the way each page is read, including across columns.
• Transcriptions match the source character for character in Bengali script, without transliteration.
• Work passes second-expert review on the first submission.
• Newly sourced documents add meaningful layout diversity to the dataset.

Work Terms

• Remote, hourly engagement.
• Quality and accuracy are the primary measures, with handling time also tracked.

Compensation

• $12.68 per hour.
