If you're an experienced Structural Professional Engineer who wants to do more than produce drawings and calculations, this is an opportunity to take ownership of complex structural designs and work directly alongside the construction professionals who will bring those designs to life.

We are recruiting for a highly experienced Senior Structural Design Engineer to join an established engineering and design-build organization supporting industrial and specialty construction projects.

This is not a role where you'll be isolated behind a desk designing projects you never see again.

You'll collaborate with engineers, designers, Project Managers, Superintendents, VDC professionals, and construction teams to develop solutions that are technically sound, efficient, and actually constructible in the field

What You'll Be Designing

Projects vary in size, complexity, and duration and may include:

• Industrial facilities and structures
• Structural and specialty foundation systems
• Equipment foundations and supports
• Structural steel platforming
• Containment structures
• Foundation designs developed in collaboration with the Geostructural engineering team
• Other structural components supporting industrial and design-build construction

Depending on project size, you may manage the engineering responsibilities for 3–4 smaller projects at different stages or concentrate on one significant, longer-duration project with defined schedule milestones.

You Won't Be Engineering Alone

You'll join an established technical team that includes:

• 5 Engineers , including three other Structural PEs and a Geostructural PE
• 3 Modelers/Designers
• 1 Project Manager

There are no direct reports expected initially, but this is a senior-level position with significant technical ownership and the opportunity to provide direction and review to design personnel.

For design-build projects, the engineering/design team develops the design while actively incorporating constructability input from the Construction Project Manager and Superintendent. Once the engineering deliverable is issued, the construction team executes the scope.

You'll have the opportunity to design solutions and then see how those solutions perform in the field.

Your Role

You'll take ownership of structural design efforts from scope development through completed construction documents, including:

• Leading structural design efforts and coordinating project deliverables
• Performing and reviewing detailed structural calculations
• Developing design bases, engineering philosophies, specifications, drawings, and supporting documentation
• Reviewing construction documents for technical accuracy and constructability
• Coordinating with Project Managers, VDC, Designers, Superintendents, and construction personnel
• Identifying constructability issues, conflicts, and value-engineering opportunities
• Reviewing vendor and subcontractor submittals
• Supporting RFIs and technical questions during construction
• Participating in project kickoff, design review, vendor, and Client/Owner meetings
• Supporting proposal development, engineering estimates, execution strategies, and manpower requirements

Every deliverable goes through senior engineer or peer QA/QC review before final sign-off and issuance

The position is designed for an engineer who can take genuine ownership of the technical work while still having an experienced engineering team around them.

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
• 10+ years of structural design experience
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics, analysis, and design
• Experience developing and reviewing structural calculations and construction documents
• Ability to lead design efforts and collaborate effectively with construction teams

Preferred:

• Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis
• Experience with STAAD, RISA 3D, or comparable finite element analysis software
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Bluebeam
• Industrial and/or design-build project experience

A Master's degree is preferred, but it is not a prerequisite for an experienced PE who can demonstrate strong structural design experience and a thorough understanding of structural mechanics.

The original position specification calls for 10+ years of structural design experience, a Civil Engineering bachelor's degree, PE licensure, and proficiency with structural analysis software.

Schedule & Travel

This is an in-office, five-day-per-week position

Travel is limited primarily to day trips to evaluate potential projects or visit active construction sites, averaging approximately 1–2 trips per month

Travel between the Piedmont Operations Center and South Carolina or Tennessee offices is expected to be infrequent.

Compensation

Base Salary: $150,000–$180,000
