Cytogenetics Technologist-CytoGenetics Laboratory

Scope of Position The Cytogenetics Laboratory provides Fluorescent in situ Hybridization (FISH) and Chromosome analysis on inpatient and outpatient specimens received from the OSUWMC and other local and state hospitals and physicians. The CAP, TJC and CLIA certified Cytogenetic laboratory is recognized as one of the top academic centers performing highly complex testing using advanced technology. It supports outreach testing programs and educational rotations for medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty from internal and external institutions. Position Summary The Cytogenetic Technologist examines blood, bone marrow, and tumor specimens from cancer patients for chromosomal changes using high‑resolution microscopes and a digital imaging system. The Technologist is responsible for complete chromosomal analysis and/or FISH analysis, as well as processing, clerical, and other general laboratory duties related to specimen processing. The role works under the direction and supervision of the Lab Manager and Technical Directors. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in medical technology, biological science, chemistry, or a certified Cytogenetics program. ASCP certification within one year of hire or specialty certification within two years of hire. Post‑degree experience in a Cytogenetics laboratory and experience in cancer cytogenetic analysis (preferred). Maintains current certification through education credits; meets health surveillance requirements; demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required for essential job functions.
