Biostatistician II Job Summary The Cancer Biostatistics Shared Resource (CBSR) at Huntsman CancerInstitute (HCI) of the University of Utah is seeking a staffstatistician to carry out statistical analyses in collaborationwith cancer investigators. We are a group of biostatisticians in CBSR engaged in a wide rangeof collaborations from basic science, high-dimensional multi-omicsdata analyses, translational research, epidemiology studies,biomarker selection, to clinical trials at HCI. We interact withother data scientists, bioinformaticians, statisticians,epidemiologists, psychometricians, health economists, survey designresearchers, and systematic review experts within the campus. Focusresearch areas include, although not limited to, the design ofclinical trials, observational studies, longitudinal and survivalanalysis, epidemiologic modeling, Bayesian analysis, modern causalinference, biomarkers analyses, statistical genetics and genomics,computational statistics, systematic review methodology, structuralequations modeling, and muti-omics analysis. Responsibilities Essential Functions 1. Provides basic statistical analysis and programmingsupport 2. Reviews data for discrepancies, interacts with data managers,and creates analysis datasets 3. Prepares and communicates statistical results in written andoral summary 4. Conforms to statistical programming and analysis standards 5. Works collaboratively with supervising and other statisticiansin supporting project needs 6. Collaborates and communicates effectively with cancerresearchers and multidisciplinary research teams. Minimum Qualifications EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher educationcan be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience(Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related workexperience). Department may hire employee at one of the following joblevels: Biostatistician, II: Requires abachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience. Preferences Bachelor's degree in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a related field. A master's or doctoral degree with several years of directly related experience is preferred. Candidates should have familiarity with standard statisticalmethods and the ability to apply appropriate statistical approaches to research questions. General programming skills and proficiencyin at least one statistical programming language, such as SAS, R,or Python, are preferred, along with the ability to independentlylearn new programming skills and troubleshoot and solve challengingprogramming problems. Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word,Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred. The successful candidate shouldbe able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizetasks, meet deadlines, work effectively both independently andcollaboratively, and communicate statistical concepts and resultsclearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Relevantresearch or work experience is preferred. Experience with large language models (LLMs), domain-specificlanguage models, high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, orcloud computing environments is highly desirable but not required.Familiarity with the capabilities and limitations of chatbots andother AI-assisted tools, such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, orsimilar technologies, is also preferred. Experience with the analysis and integration of high-dimensionalmulti-omics data, including, but not limited to, genomic,transcriptomic, epigenomic, and microbiome data, is preferred butnot required. Familiarity with relevant bioinformatics orstatistical workflows, including data preprocessing, qualitycontrol, analysis, visualization, and biological interpretation,would be an advantage.
