Job Summary/Purpose: Our Patient Population Ashley River Tower (ART) 6 East is a 21-bed surgical acute care unit providing care to patients with a variety of diagnoses. ART 6 East commonly cares for patients admitted on general medicine services, plus specialty services including GI surgery, surgical oncology, vascular surgery, plastic surgery. Additionally, ART 6 East cares for patients admitted on cardiology, CT surgery, hematology/oncology and/or other services as appropriate based on patient needs.

Our Team The nursing staff on ART 6 East is trained to utilize a variety of devices, tools and techniques to assist in the delivery of safe patient care. Our unit has a variety of staffing and scheduling options offering prospective new team members flexibility. Our nurses enjoy an educational, collaborative work environment with all members of the care team including physicians, respiratory therapist, and other ancillary staff. We work closely with colleagues on our Rapid Response team and in MSICU (Medical-Surgical ICU, one of the ICUs located within the Ashley River Tower), who often assist us in meeting the needs of our patients should they need a higher level of care.

Engagement and Development ART 6 East has their own unit based Shared Governance Council. Unit Shared Governance affords our team the opportunity to be involved in decisions affecting our unit and the team's workflows. Additionally, our team members have opportunities to participate on hospital wide Shared Governance Councils, influencing decisions throughout the hospital. In addition to Shared Governance opportunities, MUSC has a variety of pathways and opportunities for growth within your nursing career providing opportunities for you to meet your long-term goals.

Minimum Training and Education: Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.

Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Ability to reach in all directions. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. Ability to match or discriminate between colors. Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. Good peripheral vision capabilities. Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. Ability to work rotating shifts. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to work in a latex safe environment. Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions. Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
