DIRECTOR OF LANDSCAPE OPERATIONS

We are seeking a dynamic and qualified Director of Landscape Operations . The Director of Landscape Operations is responsible for maintaining the Quail Ridge POA landscape and grounds to reflect the ideals and expectations of Quail Ridge members and management. This position oversees and manages the Landscape Department with over 45 staff members, an annual budget exceeding $3 million, as well as all programs, horticultural practices, equipment, and facilities. The Director is also responsible for the overall appearance and upkeep of the community’s common landscapes and member homes. Responsibilities Manage and coordinate horticultural functions of the community. Supervise, instruct and plan activities and projects by staff of 40+ employees. Manage and oversees the maintenance of the plantings, trees, lawns, sidewalks, perimeter hedge and green space comprised of nearly 600 acres. Manage landscape and horticultural staff members including; supervising, payroll recording, setting departmental procedures and policies consistent with QR POA policies, overseeing daily operations. Hiring and termination of personnel is done in cooperation with H.R. Department and company policies. Plan, submit, and follow a fiscal budget for operations, personnel, capital and special projects expenditures. Plan, design, and carry out landscape plantings and landscape projects coordinated with the POA landscape committee. This includes purchasing materials, coordinating and scheduling with consultants and contractors and reviewing bids for presentation to Landscape Committee and GM. Regular evaluations of landscape plantings should be conducted for replanting of permanent and seasonal material to maintain the design intent of the landscape. Regular evaluations of arboriculture needs as to general health of trees and safety of the residents are to be made. Plan, consult and assist with other staff regarding capital needs. Order plant materials and supplies including fertilizer and pesticides to maintain the integrity of the property’s landscape. Develop and coordinate contractor time tables for installations. Meet with department staff at regular meetings to exchange information and coordinate activities to maximize capital. Write reports, planning documents, and newsletter articles as needed. Coordinate horticulture responsibilities for special events. Complete accessibility for homeowners requests, concerns and complaints. Responsible for monthly work orders and billings to homeowners for plantings, tree work and irrigation projects within defined areas. Works with the Human Resources Department concerning all employees discipline, evaluations, onboarding, interviewing, terminations, safety training and other related personnel concerns and procedures. Prepare, review, and submit time cards/time records to payroll/HR for department. Training of new and existing employees: job function, equipment operation, safety requirements, safety training, guest service standards and departmental information. Evaluates daily labor records. Schedules and conducts safety and staff meetings. Supervision of staff including scheduling, training, discipline, regular follow up to ensure high productivity and excellent quality. Regular and timely communication with members/residents of the community answering their questions and providing them with information and feedback regarding various concerns they may have. Ability to diagnose various pest problems and implement an Integrated Pest Management solution. Maintaining various records and documents. Ensuring that staff performs their daily duties in accordance with established policies and procedures, and in compliance with governmental regulations. Cross training with other supervisory staff to ensure continuity and coverage during the absence of a team member. Perform any other duties/tasks that is required, assigned, and/or directed by management Requirements and Experience Bachelor Degree in Plant Science or Landscape, Horticulture or Landscape Management required. Proficiency in all other areas with minimum 10 years’ experience in large landscape management may suffice for BS degree. Minimum of five to ten years’ experience in horticulture and arboriculture practices and management is required. Previous Landscape/Laborer experience required. Requires knowledge of irrigation and spraying practices. Requires basic working knowledge of computer including spreadsheet applications and proficient use of Microsoft Office programs; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Requires 5 to 10 years’ experience with supervision/management and training of staff. Pesticide application certification/license or ability to get one in one year. Arborist certification or ability to get one in one year. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Valid Florida Driver’s License and insurable under company plan. Must understand horticultural practices, landscape maintenance operations and function. Landscape maintenance staff management experience required. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills including effective presentation, negotiation and problems solving skills. Self-starter, creative, persuasive and goal oriented. Exceptional organizational skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department and across departments. Ability to work independently and lead staff effectively. Ability to work under deadline pressure. Ability to communicate effectively to a diverse staff. Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with employees, management and members.
