Position: Surgical Technician

Shift:

Varied 12-hour day/evening shifts; on-call required

Job Summary:

The Surgical Technician assists in various surgical procedures by performing scrubbing duties. This role involves preparing for operations and supporting the surgical team, including the management and maintenance of sterile supplies.

Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain a sterile field during surgical procedures.
• Inspect sterile items for contamination before use.
• Anticipate the need for equipment and supplies prior to the start of the case.
• Ensure all equipment is functioning properly before use.
• Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer instructions.
• Scrub all surgical procedures, understanding the specific needs and techniques of individual surgeons.
• Assist RN with the completion of operative charges and recording of hardware used during procedures.
• Collect specimens and cultures while verifying sources and ensuring correct tissue identification with the surgeon.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma required.
• One year of experience in the operating room as a Surgical Technician, or relevant training is required.
• Certification or eligibility for certification preferred.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification is required.
