Job Summary Interprets spoken words from one language into another. May be designated according to language or languages interpreted. May specialize in specific subject area. Translates written words from one language to another. Meets and maintains Interpreter/Translator criteria and competencies as set forth in the Interpreter Career Ladder. Interprets spoken passages from one language into another. In consecutive interpreting listens to complete statements in one language, interprets to second, and interprets responses from second into first language. Expresses either approximate or exact interpretation. Translates documents and material from one language to another, following established rules pertaining to word meaning, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. Reviews translated documents and material to determine if they meet standards for quality and accuracy and edits as appropriate. Responds to all customers, sets priorities, gives reports and maintains confidentiality. Maintains positive working relations with all customers and peers including verbalizing complaints or concerns through appropriate channels and accepts assignment changes or constructive criticism. Continuously works to improve as a professional through attendance at staff meetings, mandatory training and compliance with rules and expectations of the department. Participates in self-development programs and directed programs for quality control while maintaining competencies. Assists with clerical functions of the Interpretation Services department as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non‑management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Requirements Education – Bachelor's degree Experience – No experience required. One (1) year related work experience preferred. In Lieu Of Any incumbents in this position as of 6/12/16 are grandfathered from the educational requirements of this job. Future hires, rehires or transfers to this role must meet the educational requirements listed herein. In lieu of the education experience noted above, an equivalent combination of work/academic experience may be considered (i.e., four years of work experience OR Associate degree and two years of experience). Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses Applicants must successfully pass a translation test for the applicable language prior to onsite interview. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic computer skills including word processing. Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier). Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing in English and Spanish. Incumbents will be required to meet Prisma Health interpretation standards within specified time frames.
