Primary Care Physicians (Internal Medicine / Family Practice)

VA St. Cloud Health Care System — St. Cloud, Brainerd & Montevideo, Minnesota

Schedule & Workload

●       Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (no nights, weekends, or on-call)

●       Standard coverage: 40 hours/week per provider (2,080 hrs/year), plus up to 5 hours/week available for training, administrative duties, and care coordination (260 hrs/year overtime)

●       Average caseload: ~12 patients/day, 30–60 minute appointment slots

●       Approximately 80% direct patient care / 20% administrative (documentation, QA/QI, care coordination)

●       All federal holidays observed; holiday hours not required except in emergencies

What You'll Do

●       Provide comprehensive primary care: preventive care, acute illness/injury treatment, and chronic disease management (hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and more)

●       Diagnose, evaluate, treat, and manage patients across a broad ambulatory scope, including musculoskeletal, dermatologic, mild mental health, geriatric, and gynecologic concerns

●       Document care in the VA's electronic health record (CPRS/EHR) and communicate test results per VA protocol

●       Participate in quality improvement activities, peer review, and PACT team-based care

●       Coordinate referrals, consultations, and discharge/follow-up planning with the care team

Requirements

●       Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, or D.C. (no history of restriction, suspension, revocation, or denial)

●       Board Certified or Board Eligible — American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)

●       Current BLS certification (AHA); ACLS a plus

●       Active NPI number; current DEA registration valid in the state of practice

●       Ability to complete VA credentialing and privileging (VetPro) prior to start

●       Fluent in spoken and written English

●       Current immunization/screening documentation: TB test (TST/IGRA), MMR, Varicella, Tdap, and annual influenza vaccine (or approved exemption)

●       Ability to pass a low-risk federal background investigation and obtain a VA PIV badge

●       Not listed on the HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities

●       U.S. work authorization; compliance with E-Verify requirements
