Job Summary The Clinical Supervisor provides clinical supervision to internal counselors pursuing their Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) credential in Tennessee. The role ensures supervision activities meet state regulatory requirements and supports the professional growth of supervisees through group supervision, individual supervision, and occasional training facilitation. The Clinical Supervisor also plays a key role in maintaining compliance with all applicable state rules and standards. Summary of Essential Job Functions The key responsibilities of the Clinical Supervisor include, but are not limited to: Provide individual and group clinical supervision to counselors working toward their LADAC credential, in alignment with Tennessee state regulations. Provide mental health counseling when the program and clinician qualifications permit. Deliver services according to required hours, which may vary depending on services. Observe, evaluate, and give constructive feedback on clinical skills, ethical practice, and professional development. Maintain appropriate supervision documentation for each supervisee. Conduct individual, group, or live supervision. Document clinical supervision and track supervision hours. Conduct trainings based on chart audit results to ensure continuous quality improvement. Offer consultation, support, and oversight on high‑risk patient cases. Sign off as Supervisor on all relevant clinical documentation. Maintain caseload and engage in monthly QI meetings for reporting and improvement planning. Provide in‑service training and crisis intervention/support services to patients when the primary counselor is unavailable. Monitor and assess the quality of clinical services provided by the counseling team. Assist counselors with case management, counseling strategies, and federal and state regulations. Plan and develop group therapy sessions. Conduct fidelity monitoring observations of evidence‑based interventions and practices. Hold periodic meetings with counselors to provide feedback on progress and prepare required documentation. Oversee counselors by accompanying them during 1:1 or group therapy sessions. Provide hands‑on training of the 12 core functions through direct observation and case record review. Facilitate individual and/or group sessions with counselors at least once per week, with a minimum one‑hour duration. Create learning opportunities for counselors through role play, co‑facilitation, observation, and other viable options. Conduct alcohol and drug abuse counseling sessions per state regulation or as part of the treatment plan. Conduct required group counseling sessions. Orient patients to the treatment program’s operation and procedures. Collect social, educational, economic, and vocational information for assessment. Implement or revise patient treatment plans and record progress per BHG policy. Develop a formal treatment plan within ten (10) days of entry or as mandated by state guidelines. Maintain patient records that are complete, comprehensive, and well organized. Submit records for periodic review as requested by the supervisory team. Document all patient contacts and ensure co‑team members’ contacts are recorded in the patient’s chart. Make appropriate referrals through case‑management services and perform necessary follow‑up. Assist the Program Director in implementing new programs into patient treatment. Advise the Program Director of problems encountered with caseload management and schedules. Attend weekly treatment team meetings prepared to lead discussions and discuss assigned caseload. Provide in‑service trainings to counselors and other team members as needed. Maintain a basic understanding of alcohol/drug abuse and addiction; stay current on treatment information, especially opioid maintenance treatment trends. Provide intake/readmission services and supportive follow‑up counseling for new patients until assignment to a primary counselor. Monitor and document follow‑up contacts with all discharging patients for at least 30 days. Coordinate inter‑agency reports and documentation required for third‑party reimbursement, criminal justice proceedings, supplemental income assessments, emergency services, and other specialized treatment needs. Coordinate care with other community providers as needed. Meet BHG attendance standards and be ready for work at the beginning of the schedule. Report work‑related injury, illness, hazardous conditions, or security issues immediately to supervisor. Perform peer file reviews monthly for quality control. Regulatory Stay current on Tennessee state laws, rules, and regulations regarding LADAC supervision and licensure. Ensure supervision hours, activities, and records meet all state requirements. Collaborate with HR and compliance teams to align supervision practices with organizational policies. Facilitate or coordinate training sessions to enhance clinical competencies, ethics, and best practices. Support supervisees in developing treatment planning, counseling techniques, and documentation skills. Comply with all federal, state, local, and accrediting agency requirements. Encourage all unlicensed counselors to pursue appropriate licensure or certification. Work closely with program leadership to align supervision goals with organizational needs. Serve as a resource for supervisees for clinical and ethical guidance. Provide periodic updates to leadership on supervisee progress and potential concerns. Mandate mandatory training on addiction as a brain disease, not a moral failing. Demonstrate hope, respect, and caring in all interactions with patients and team members. Maintain positive workplace relationships. Work independently and under pressure while handling multiple tasks. Make decisions using good judgment with confidential and sensitive issues. Handle stressful or undesirable situations appropriately. Training Facilitate or coordinate training sessions to enhance clinical competencies, ethics, and best practices. Support supervisees in developing treatment planning, counseling techniques, and documentation skills. Participate in and schedule regular in‑service trainings. Other Demonstrate a commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree in a related field may be required with expanded job duties. Qualifications Required Current Qualified Clinical Supervisor (QCS) recognized by the TN Board of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors for providing LADAC supervision. Demonstrated knowledge of state regulatory requirements for clinical supervision. Preferred Experience supervising counselors in both group and individual settings. Familiarity with evidence‑based practices for substance use disorder treatment. Training experience in clinical skills or ethics. Skills & Competencies Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to provide clear, constructive, and supportive feedback. Excellent organizational and documentation skills. Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning. Work Environment & Schedule Primarily office‑based or virtual with occasional in‑person meetings as needed. Flexible schedule to meet supervision requirements. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Speak and hear ability sufficient for effective communication by phone or in person. Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screens, and forms. Prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, or stretching. Variable workload, periodic high stress and activity level. Standard medical office conditions and environments.
